American Hustle

Wow! What a terrific film.  It’s great to see a movie that has the full, package. Incredible acting that showcases the wonderful talents of Christine Bale, Bradley Cooper, Amy Adams,  & of coarse Jennifer Lawrence.  Great score that flowed well with the action on the screen. A script that would make any screenwriter jealous.  Finally Cinematography, costume design and set design that makes the 70’s come alive.  “American Hustle” deserves it spot in the category of best movies of the year. ****

See if you spot the one flaw after Jeremy Renner – Mayor Carmine Polito beats up Christian Bale – Irving Rosenfeld

steps to success

Our culture continues to promote that success is based on the items and things you’ve possessed not how you’ve achieve them.  We see that in movies such as “Wolf Of Wall Street” and “American Hustle” but what is most disturbing is that it’s coming from our top leaders. For example the President has pushed through Obamacare in the middle of the night and is breaking his law just to get to the goals he wants.  We have our constitutional right to unusual searches and seizures being violated by the same government that is supposed to protect those rights.  Financial bailouts have made fortunes for the criminals who have put our country in the mess we are in, whether they be in the banking, auto or housing industry.

It’s time we look at success in a whole new light. Let’s applaud the small or big business that treats it’s employees and customers with dignity and respect at the cost of a profit line.  Let’s champion the father and mother who takes care of a sick parent or child instead of sending them off to a nursing home.  Let us stand up and applaud the politicians who sticks to the highest moral code even when those in higher power do everything to stop them. We see these heroes everyday their sacrifice in doing what’s right might prevent them from having the hottest car, biggest house and their achievements might not appear as grand but rest assured  their small steps are paved with the gold of truth, justice and dignity.

A Tunnel For Peace

TUNNEL

AT THE END OF DARKNESS IS LIGHT

Palestinians have complained that the separation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip makes it impossible for them to truly seek peace with Israel since their country is divided by the  land of Israel in the middle. The answer is the tunnel of peace a way for Palestinians to easily move to and fro from both capitals.   This tunnel would be built by Israel and be fully bomb proof.  It would also be funded by the world community.  Once it’s formed the officials on the West Bank and Gaza Strip would control who enters and leaves the tunnel. If a terrorist attack does occur in or around this tunnel Israel would close the tunnel from various sections.   There could be a section for a subway system as  well.  This tunnel can truly bring light to the world where many see only darkness. He’s Moving Out.

father and son

I have mixed emotions now that my son is moving out to the college life. Of course I’m excited for the opportunity this move will allow him but I can’t honestly say I don’t have reservations.  It’s great that this move will make him more independent but I still remember him following me around asking him to pick him up.  Community college enables parents like me to allow our child to become a man without having to move out.

All I can do is tell him how much I love him, how proud I am of him and let him know that even know he’s away that I’m only a phone call away.  I can blame my mixed emotions on the worries that college life brings like the drugs, and partying, yet I trust my son. The truth is my mixed emotions are truly that  I worry I will miss him too much.

Hillary will lose-according to recent history

Posted by Bruce - in Blog, Philosophy - No Comments

Hillary Clinton

I’m not a fortune teller but if we take the pulse of the American people and observe recent history Hillary Clinton will not be our next President of the United States. There are several reasons I believe that is so (listed below) but that doesn’t mean we who oppose her for this office should sit back and relax. We need to understand that history can be broken and therefore must put up a  strong candidate who is a bit unique, well spoken, honorable, some experience, and has charisma.

(1) Almost every candidate that the media has picked to be the front runner this early has lost steam and fallen off. The only exception is George H.W. Bush and the economy was doing exceptionally well.

(2) When the party picks the candidate who is “owed the office” they lose. This has happened with candidates such as  Mitt Romney,  Gerald Ford, Walter Mondale, Michael Dukakis.

(3) The dark horse with Charisma usually fights to the finish line but pulls ahead at the last minute. We can look at Barrack Obama &  Ronald Reagan as perfect examples.

How I observe the Sabbath?

Posted by Bruce - in Blog, Faith, Philosophy, Uncategorized - No Comments

Sabbath Rest

How to observe that day of rest called the “Sabbath”? One of the most significant commandments in the Torah/Bible not only because it’s mentioned so many times but because it’s in the 10 Commandments. The Commandments that Hash-m spoke directly to the entire Jewish people if not the world. Yet still today there are many discussions on what you can and can’t do even among those that are traditional let alone those that aren’t.  I have my own way of observing this day. HOW DO YOU OBSERVE IT AND WHY?

(1) One day of the week we should take a break from our daily work. Traditional this occurs on Friday night and there is much written on why this should occur then. I follow this tradition today but in all truth have not followed this day of the week in the past.  I end my work day at 5:30PM and therefore begin my Sabbath at 5:30PM and end it at 5:30PM

(2) You shall not kindle a fire. I believe this is the act of lighting a fire in traditional means to keep warm. This differs from my traditional brothers and sisters who have prohibited the use of cars and turning on lights or electricity.

(3) You shall not pick up Manna.  I interrupt this to mean this is a day I should not go food shopping or out to eat.

(4) You shall stay in your own dwelling. I go to my Shul and stay around the house during the Sabbath or at least stay with my close family and friends.

(5) Finally I try to break away from thinking about business during this one day of the week.  This gives me time to slow down and think about my relationship with family, friends and most importantly Hash-m.
