Contracted Rabbi

Posted by Bruce - in Blog, Faith, Philosophy - No Comments

In the “modern” Jewish Shul a rabbi is given a contract to work for a certain amount of years for a particular shul and then must have their contract be renewed if they are to continue working at that Shul. This contract basis makes it difficult for the Rabbi to bring up significant points that might be controversial especially if it affects or offends those in leadership position at this Shul.  I believe if we truly want to understand the faith this practice should be stopped.

A rabbi should build a Shul around their core values and those that support those values should join his/her Shul. If a rabbi violates certain moral principals (stealing, drug abuse, sexual abuse) they should be dismissed from office but only those specific issues.  Once that Rabbi moves on then the next Rabbi serves with respect to the core values but could add or enhance those values as well. If members of the congregation don’t like the direction the new Rabbi is taking the Shul they can leave to form their own Shul and adopt a new rabbi.

Banned T.V

It’s time all voices are heard! That Freedom of Speech occurs not only in the streets but in the airwaves as well! Imagine a day when talent would truly be able to speak their mind without fear they would be cut off from the airwaves. That day could come tomorrow with “Banned T.V”

Banned T.V. takes talent that was fired or “resigned” after saying something offensive and puts them back on the airwave . They will usually be teamed up with someone from the opposite side (ex Alec Baldwin and Phil Roberson) to continue allow all voices to be heard whether they be right or wrong. It also plays “banned commercials”, “music” and even movies that are deemed offensive with commentary from those of the spectrum.  If you truly believe in freedom of speech this might be the perfect network to invest in.

Rabbi & Imam seek peace

rabbi and imam

On Monday December 16th my Shul “Shaarey Israel” held a meeting of two of the major faiths Islam & Judaism to see not only how we can co-exist but strive together. Rabbi Stengel mentioned that G-D loves all his people and that they all have a special place on this earth and the afterlife.   Imam Syed Ali said that if one is take one life it is like they have killed the world and said that we must seek common ground and build on it.   Many might consider me naïve but I believe that if we could build on relationships like this we would not only find peace together but happiness and success. This I believe is G-D’s calling upon all his children.

Please note a member of the Christian community was also invited but due to sickness wasn’t able to attend. G-D willing they’ll be present at future events.

The Imam is the man with the largest skull cap.

Let them speak!

Duck Dynasty

The answer for bad speech is not to silence that speech but produce good speech. If you find a show offensive switch the channels and watch something else. For example I love Opey and Anthony but when I feel they’re going over the top or just boring (sorry guys) I switch to a different channel .   Why should “Phil Robertson” from Duck Dynasty be taken off the air because his words were politically incorrect and might have hurt others? Why should Martin Bashir and Alec Baldwin lose their jobs because their remarks were ” over the top”.

All a network has to say is that these viewpoints are not necessarily the viewpoints of the network and/or the management of the network.   If we keep censoring controversial speech eventually know one but the politically correct will speak. People will feel a certain way but have no way to express those thoughts in a rational and reasonable way. Therefore instead of silence voices let’s open  the conversation wider and allow all  different voices to be heard from the right, left and even wrong and right.

The Funniest show is ……

The New Girl

After careful evaluation on the laugh meter (me and my daughter) we have determined that “New Girl” is the funniest show on television.  The timing is perfect, the jokes are hysterical, and it’s quick pace allows you to be hit by jokes on a minute by minute basis (it actually hurts after awhile) . Not to mention that Zooey Deschanel is just too cute. The show is funny from the opening to the closing credits.   If you disagree (at least with the last episode) then you’re insane and need to go to a hospital immediately.  It’s possible that the “New Girl” might become an “Old Girl” like the ” The Big Bang” has become the  “The Big Bust” this year, but for now the New Girl tops the laugh meter.

A logical meat eater

I love animals and I love to eat certain ones.  I understand that my friends from PETA feel that the second part of my sentence might appear cruel but I ask them to be realistic. If tomorrow I stopped eating meat would my grocer stop selling hamburgers? Would KFC stop serving chicken? Yes I know it’s a statement but have you ever eaten a really good hamburger?

The truth is I feel that in a sense of I’m honoring these animals lives (especially when I add some garlic) so that their death is not put in vain but giving life and joy to others. They have already died and if I didn’t buy them someone else would who might not know how to cook. That would be wrong… right?   Should I just let a chicken corpse go to waste? Should I have a funeral for that chicken when none of their chicken friends could attend?  No I believe they would want me to eat them. So as long as my butcher provides I will cook. Please not my PETA friends that I take a monthly vegetarian day especially when there no meat specials in the supermarket.
