Speaking up in the locker-room

argument

When you’re with friends and sometimes family you usually can speak you’re mind without fear of the P.C. police but what happens when the person you’re with says something that’s racist, sexist or just plain wrong?  If we verbally reprimand this person it’s not like their feelings are truly going away or even that these words were truly meant to be literal. Our “good intentions” could result in a huge argument in which neither one of us truly win.  Our friend may say we are “too sensitive” or feel angry that they have to watch every word they say around us.

What we could do instead is try to understand where the person is coming from that says these remarks and empathize with their emotions not the way their saying it. We can state how we feel in general about what this individual is saying and offer a different way of looking at the subject.  Once we state our position it might be best to move on to a different topic and see if it comes up again. Sometime later we may realize that we were too sensitive to those remarks because they were made in humor or were meant to express something quite different then we initially heard. We also might realize that this is actually how our friend feels and we might have to consider ending this friendship.  I’ve personally had to end a friendship with a certain individual because they continued to express hateful remarks which were outside the bounds of decency.  In conclusion it’s best not to past judgment on an individual because of some out of cuff remark but also be free to express our point of view as well with the tact that can truly make a difference.

Person vs Politician

people vs politicians

I don’t mean to offend my politicians but the way many of them deal with failures is quite differently then the rest of us “common people”.  Many of us will feel bad when we buy a product for our company that doesn’t sell or buy an item for our house that doesn’t work but many a politician will continue to buy that bul**** without an ounce of remorse especially if there friend is the one who’s selling it.  Us commoners feel great remorse when our work doesn’t result in the success we plan while many a politician will blame that result on others or say it just a few more millions of our dollars to work.

See the difference between us and them is we actually have to live within a budget that is based on actual numbers not the ones those in the political world use.  If we fail to live within our budget  which become more and more difficult with taxes upon taxes we can become a slave to our work . We actually must accept our mistakes or lose a job or wife while they have plenty of room for excuses whether it be through a radio, television or newspaper that is in their corner.  The truth is we need politicians that aren’t just politicians but people who have truly had to live the experiences we go through. We need political leaders that aren’t afraid to listen, discuss and debate those with alternate ideas and plans. We need politicians who realize that the monies they are spending on our behalf are the monies we’ve earned through hard work and sacrifice. The truth is we need politicians that truly listen and care.  It’s time we start electing people that truly understand what means to be a  public servants not a political hack.

Chocolate Review – The Chocolate of the Stars

theo cocoa nib

Who would have know the chocolate I love was on the “Tonight Show”. The truth is it deserves to be there because just like most of the guests it is truly special.  “Theo Congo Vanilla Nib has the great chocolate found in most of their bars with slight crunchy nibs of vanilla.  The nibs add a bit of wildness to the bar without over powering it.   The only complaint I have is the chocolate flavor doesn’t last as long as I would like but how long can you stay in heaven when you’re still here on earth.

The world hasn’t seen the last Bush

George P Bush

He’s got the looks and the name but does he have the political muscle to continue to pull ahead?

Click to find the youngest Bush to enter the political spotlight.

It appears that American’s love a political dynasty from the left and the right.  The “Kennedy’s political future has dimmed as have many from the left but the right appears to be rising with a new Bush added to the landscape (see link above).  Is this a new wave of young conservative leaders with familiar names moving up the stream or is this just a fluke? WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Attitude & Income

snob

There is a presumption that when income goes up that attitude follows which is reinforced in popular culture. We see those with means “looking down” on those without in almost every popular movie or book. Yet in the real world this isn’t always the case, attitude is something that is much deeper. I’ve seen individuals living off the welfare system for years get “an attitude”. Where they expect others to continue to give them benefits that include a brand new pair of the hottest sneakers and newest cell phone without even an effort to get a job. I’ve witnessed those just barely in the middle class driving their parents to near bankruptcy because they have to have the “hottest fashion item” while they look down at those in school who don’t have them.  I’ve seen star athletes and beauty queens baste in their glory while they ridicule those lack their looks and talent.

There are many wealthy individuals who might at times enjoy the luxurious their income gives them but don’t flaunt it and would rather give charity in private. These individuals are the first at their work place in blue jeans  and the last to leave in sweat.  They enjoy their income not only for what it gives them but what it enables them to give.  It is time that our culture expands from the simplistic approach that attitude comes from income and look instead look at us all as individuals.

Why the arts are “liberal” and how that could change.

emotional

It appears that those that work or truly enjoy the “arts” tend to be more liberal then those who enjoy such activities as sports and business.  I believe this is because arts touches the heart and emotion while business can be cut and dry.  If a good businessman has a teddy bear that isn’t selling and taking up space they’ll throw it out and replace it with  a bag of cement that sells better while those in the arts might emotionally cling to that Teddy even if they lose money.  Therefore the way to attract those in the “arts” to the conservative point is to touch their emotionally strings. Numbers and figures don’t hit them as well as stories of life struggles, cute babies and a powerful music score.  Here are a few suggestions (below) on how we can change the narrative.

(1) Offer true live stories that have been changed because of the conservative message (rags to riches).

(2) Speak about issues in a way that touches the heartstrings like freedom, opportunity, and justice.

(3) Pick words that are more emotionally when speaking about an issue (see above).

(4) Don’t be afraid to let your emotions seep through your discussion. This is where a tear or two can truly touch someone.

(5)  Compare your struggles as an underdog against the big, powerful government.

Looking in the mirror and making $$$’s

HELPOUT 2

Imagine making $$$’s doing what you actually love and/or best at? Well Google has such a new site it’s called “Helpouts.com“. This site matches those seeking help in developing a specific talent with those that have this talent to teach. It’s all done in the convenience of your home or office through your webcam and at the hours that work best with your schedule.  It could be something as simple as making “the best chocolate chip cookies” to something a built more difficult like “changing the lightbulb” (I told you I wasn’t handy). “Helpouts.com enable you to determine how much your “skill” is worth and charge per minute. If you charge too much you won’t get any customers if you’re too low you’ll sell yourself short . It’s time to lok in the mirror and find what’s not only missing in your life but some secret talent that the world will pay you to learn

I’ve decided to test the waters with “Ending Writers Cramps/Creative Solutions”. One thing I know about myself is I can find a creative solution to almost any problem and writing flows like water. Sometimes that water is clean like “Poland Spring” and other times it picks up some sticks and stones along the way but in the end it keeps flowing. I hope my flow of ideas help those that are stuck so I can help show the creative genius that’s inside everyone. WHAT HELPOUT WOULD YOU LIKE?

Trying to keep an open mine when the door keeps shutting.

door slammed

# President Obama, # Israel, #Iran,

Every time I try to keep an open mine on this administration they keep slamming the door on my face.  You may ask why I should keep this door open am I masochist  (I don’t think so but lately…) it’s because I believe it’s the duty of every citizen to have respect for the office of the Presidency no matter what bum occupies it. Okay I’m sorry about the bum remark but Mr. President please give me and the American people a break.  You can’t just give a good speech from the teleprompter and smile at the camera’s you actually have to have policies that actually work… at least partially.

Now you tell the Prime Minister of Israel to stop assassinating Iran’s nuclear scientist while you practically give Iran the nuclear key. Imagine if the Prime Minister told you it was mean that you were targeting Al Qaida leaders and you should stop it. I’ll make this simple just like Al Qaida wants to destroy the United States Iran has pledged to wipe Israel off the face of the earth. The only difference is Al Qaida has small weapons such as guns to accomplish it’s mission while Iran has missiles and is developing a Nuclear bomb. You might also consider Iran is a bit closer to Israel then a bunch of terrorist from the Middle East to us.

Okay tomorrow’s a new day and just like the sun will rise maybe a brilliant idea will arise in your mind.  I have to believe because we’ve got 695 days till you move to become an NCAA Announcer or become the host of the Oscars.    I still feel the pain from the door this morning but I’m going to keep on believing because I’m an eternal optimist and a masochist.

(ONE PERSONAL NOTE THANKS CM FOR CORRECTING MY S&M)
