Philosophy

When your friend invites you to something that they’ve created it might be difficult to tell them how you truly feel, especially if it sucks.  You want to be honest but just because you see it that way doesn’t mean it is so. How to go about tactfully telling the truth without leading your friend down the path of failure is a difficult road to weave. Here are a few pointers (below) that might be helpful.

(1) Thank them for the invite. In your mind you might be thinking thank you for this trip to hell but at least remember you were invited.

(2) Find a positive aspect of their plan and speak about.  The door was very pretty might be a bit too obvious.

(3) Tell them everyone sees differently but don’t say they’re blind.

(4) Find some solution to make it better but don’t tell them to lock the door and run.

(5)Suggest that it’s great to go for your dreams yet don’t tell them it reminds you of a Freddy Kruger movie.

(6) Care to tell the truth in a way that leads them step by step out of the mess not run over them.

(7) Finally pray that you’re wrong and/or that they find a path not full of land mines to get them out of this mess.

Yesterday when I went to the gym all my insecurities from the past came back in a moments notice.  It was the cool tough cliche at the gym hanging out and when I tried to my comments about their conversation I felt like they became deaf. This reminded me of the times in glorious High School where I would continually worry if someone would sit with me at lunch or face the shame of sitting alone.

It also led me to my realization that although I might belong to a group I still might feel like I’m outside looking in.  I had a dream that symbolized this feeling as I kept walking around and around a restaurant never to find the entrance while watching everyone else have fun. I’ve belonged to many groups and even started groups, at times I truly felt like I belonged but other times my individual spirit wouldn’t let me get any closer. In the end I guess it is a feeling we all have but if we are closer to the divine source we are truly never alone.

Let’s face it when it comes to meeting a partner many of us are just animals. We instinctively look for the most beautiful face and body but forget to look inside.  This can make us draw into a relationship that can result in much pain and sorrow. Yet when someone goes to a matchmaker professional, parent, and/or loved one they understand some key deep elements about ourselves  that we would ignore and therefore helps us find a true match. Here are a few factors that you might ignore in your search.

(1) PROCASTINATOR OR GO GETTER- You might need someone who is more laid back or maybe you want another busy beaver.

(2) LONER OR PART OF A GROUP- Would you be best with a partner who has many different friends and socializes or one who likes to spend time only with you?

(3) ENERGY LEVEL- Do you share the same energy level?  Are you the type of person who needs to be with someone who keeps up with you or excels past you?

(4) PICKY OR EASY GOING- Do you need a clone of you or do you enjoy being with someone who is a bit different?

(5) SPIRITUALITY- Whether you’re formally religious or not do you see a certain spirituality in your life that you want to share with another individual?

(6) DEEP THINKER- Are you someone who enjoys thinking about the abstract for a period of time or are you into small talk?

(7) FUTURE- Can your goals for the future come together or will they always be polar opposite? Is that a problem with you if they differ?

(8) EMOTION LEVEL- Do you want someone who feels as emotional as you or do you want someone who is calm and cool and of course vice versa.

#NCC Tournament, # Orangtutan Arms,  #Final Four, # Racism,

Yesterday while watching the NCAA tournament discussions I heard one of the commentators suggest his fellow commentator had “Orangtutan Arms”.  There was no uprising from “Social Media” or the press to ban this individual who made these remarks, even though his remarks were directed at an “African American”. I knew the line was said as a joke but wasn’t this joke over the top to the PC police? I guess it’s not what is actually said but who says it because the man who made this remark was “African American”.

The truth is we can get away with deragatory remarks about our own people in public but when that joke goes into another group uh oh we’ve passed the line.  Isn’t this a bit silly shouldn’t a joke just be a joke? In a free society shouldn’t we allow people to actually speak freely? Just because words don’t pass from your lips doesn’t mean they don’t exist. I agree with having tact and there is no reason to cause a fellow human being unnecessary pain but there is a difference with the occassional slip and being labeled “racist, homophobic, anti-semitic, etc.  It’s time we all stop being so sensitive and grew some balls like an Orangutan.

I know the P.C police are watching everyone’s remarks but I thought they would stop at Comedy Central (see below).  Instead of trying to ban people and products maybe they should buy a sense of humor.
