Dentist at 6AM

dentist sleeping

Tomorrow morning is not going to be fun. Rarely is the actual moment of waking up met with joy.  Although I’m grateful to be alive (G-D willing) a few more minutes of shut eye would make me evn more grateful and then add the dentist visit.  To add to this misery my dentist is filled with a big bright smile and is waiting to have some deep conversation with me as he’s gnawing and pulling at my teeth at 6AM.  It’s 6AM but do to my loyal (or stupid) work ethic I choose this time. I guess I’m really into pain or few shades of gray just not on the teeth.

This is controversial

AUSCHWITZ IN POLAND

Part of not forgetting the past is to remember the sins of forefathers/mothers.  It is not meant to bring guilt to a new generation but to understand how even “good people” can do awful things if they allow themselves to be manipulated or even turn a blind eye. With that in mine  I understand that the German’s instituted the death camps during World War II but most of these hideous camps were located in Poland and run by Polish people.  The truth is many Polish people either turned a blind eye or actually turned in their fellow citizens during this period of time.  We can neither neglect that Poland was occupied by the German’s during the war and that there were many righteous gentiles who risked limb and life to protect those, who were facing death but this was far to rare.  So the remarks by the FBI Director  (see link below) should not be controversial. We the next generation have pledged to Never Forget and not allow others to try to sweep the past under the rug.

Kosher Pig

Posted by Bruce - in Blog, Faith, Philosophy - No Comments

kosher pig 2

From the outside a Pig might appear to be kosher because it has split hooves but because internally it only has one stomach the pig and can not chew it’s cud it remains non kosher.  What is amazing is that the Bible/Torah mentions a total of only four animals that have one but not two of the traits that are needed to be Kosher and science has never found one other animal that they can add to this list.  For those that believe in science another proof that the Bible/Torah is true. It is said that when the Messiah appears pigs will be able to chew their cud and become Kosher.  That means that they must change internally to be Kosher.  I believe for us it means that even if we appear holy on the outside it is more important for us to be holy in our heart and soul.

Can be Bridge

bridge

I believe that I can be a bridge to people from different ways of seeing this world and beyond.  This bridge is based on my background that has allowed me to hear and listen to different paths where others have had there ears and eyes covered or pulled in different directions.  Here are a few bridges (below) I hope I can establish.

FAITH- I have traveled the different routes in the Jewish religion from Reform to Orthodox which has allowed me to observe other faiths along the way.  Today I stand with a foot in the traditional path but still have a few toes in the more liberal wing because I will listen but feel that I shouldn’t just follow.

POLITICS- It is true that I’m a Tea Party Conservative and have been conservative all my life but I have been surrounded with loved ones that share a very different perspective and I live in liberal NY. Therefore I have learned to understand, respect and find some common ground with those who might not normally share my views.

ENTERTAINMENT- It’s important for me to keep my eyes, ears and mind open to listen to the various forms of Art yet my values keep me from crossing certain lines.  The balance has led me to see deeper meanings in art that others might have closed their eyes too but not pull me into direction that my soul didn’t want to go.

JUST THE WAY I LIKE IT

Have you ever gone to a restaurant that had the best ”         ” but  you found it just okay or even lousy? The truth is that the restaurant reviewer might not had been wrong but he judged ”             “ based on the sauce while you believe the cheese was the most important ingredient. That’s where “REAL RESTAURANT REVIEWS APP” fills in the blank space. Our certified reviewers will be paid a service fee to judge a dish and rate not only if it’s good but what is truly best about it.  So if you love your pizza with thick sweet sauce (my favorite), or eggs extra spicy you’ll find the restaurant that specializes in this category.  This app will enable you to find restaurant that meet you desired specific taste and in the zip code you live in.  It’s time a review finally agrees with your specific desires it’s time for “REAL RESTAURANT REVIEW APP”

Illogical

I consider myself quite logical, where most of my decisions are based on the facts but when it comes to my dog I must admit illogical thinking rules the day.  For there never is a day when I don’t feel a little bad about leaving my dog even though the dog has never held a grudge.  Deep inside I fear the day when I come home and the dog will walk the other way out of disdain for my earlier decision.  It is true that in the past my previous dogs have left me “unpleasant surprises” upon my return but they still have been as happy to see me as if I had never left.  I fear that this illogical thinking will never go away and I’ll continue to pamper my pouch for ever more or at least until she/he finally holds a grudge.

Not Tired of

looking in window

Let’s face it we become tired of so many things in our life that initially were met with such excitement.  Whether it be the new game system, cell phone, or even car the excitement wains over time.  Yet there are some things that continually give me pleasure in my daily life here (below) are just a few.

(1) SHOWER – It continues to revive my body and mind to get up and smell the roses and whatever the day will bring.

(2) GOOD CHOCOLATE- The taste takes me away to a place of peace and happiness.

(3) AFFECTION – No matter what the time of day a tap on the back, dogs lick,  handshake or even hug can bring me back to the warmth of society.

Wall Street Journal Weekend Edition- FIRST IMPRESSIONS- 4/18/15

WALL STREET JOURNAL 2

These are the stories (below)  that grabbed my interest upon looking at this Weekend’s Wall Street Journal and why I believe this occurred.  WHAT ARTICLES CAUGHT YOUR ATTENTION?

(1)Texas is set to pass legislation that will allow open carry of handguns.  I believe that my interest in protecting the 2nd Amendment and love of Texas drew me to this article.

(2) A truck carrying 13.7 million bees overturned in Washington State.  The image of seeing this many bees realized on a highway pulled me to this story and I wondered how I would react if I was on that highway.

(3) President Obama suggested he would immediately release sanctions after a deal with Iran was reached. Just like the bee story this story scared me but this  bite is a hell of a lot worse, since it’s nuclear.

(4) People are utilizing libraries to conduct business in NYC.  I thought about how this could help the government raise monies (opening a coffee shop, charging fees for private rooms etc) instead of raising taxes on the rest of us.

(5) Coca Cola is buying  Culiangwang Beverages a Chinese beverage maker that specializes in whole grain drinks.  I was drawn to how these drinks would taste and whether I would be able to taste them anytime soon.

(6) Campaigns appear to have become endless.  Maybe the show “House Of Cards” is pulling me to this story along with the political world as well but from a distance.

Cards Addiction

house of cards

I believe I’m becoming a “House Of Cards” addict. Last night I couldn’t stop watching this show on Netflix even though my body told me it was time to go to sleep I needed one more roll of an episode.  This show is so well produced that it puts the network shows to shame (except Gotham).  The acting is fit for an Oscar nominated drama and the dark jokes hit hard.   What is most compelling is the story line that keeps on giving.  You can’t help to hate and love the main characters at the same time because all their strength’s and weaknesses are revealed in a timely basis. “House of Cards” is the one card game I’m going to continue to play.

Kabbalah- Jewish Mysticism

kabbalah

I’ve decided to explore Kabbalah as it takes me through “Jewish mysticism”. It is basically my goal to understand the roots of this movement and to see if some of it’s principles can play a role in my life.  My initial exploration has shown me that many of it’s principles appear to align themselves well with the 60’s religious movements except that Kabbalah has G-D as it’s foundation. I will share with you some points that stand out as time goes by.  I’m not sure how much I will accept and how much I will reject or if my own ego will be the cause of this rejection or if logic will dictate that decision but at least this path will be open. This will be a slow process but overtime I hope this understanding will enable me to be a better person with my family and community at large.
