Winning but losing

Many a times we will fight a battle as if it was a war and therefore win but end up losing. It’s important to realize when it’s time to say your piece and then move on so you can have the energy and resources to fight the war instead. Yet knowing when to concede even though you are right and move on is a difficult proposition. Here are some points (below) that I believe will be helpful in such a decision.

(1) TIME- Is it the right time to take such a strong stance or will it be perceived as arrogant even though you’re right.  Sickness, Poor Economic Conditions, Holidays may all play a role in that decision.

(2) WHAT YOU WILL LOSE- Could you lose a key leader, a great income, or even your house over something you truly believe in? Will it be difficult for you and your family to replace those needs and truly at what cost?

(3) DIVISION- Will your decision create extra tension between the community that might tear the fabric upon which you’re standing apart?

(4) GREATER GOOD- Could you win this battle but lose the greater good by bringing resentment that last way past this victory and create more tensions in the future?

If these conditions of battle exist maybe it’s time to have “a judge” (a person who will impartially judge the facts and come to a decision) step in and help each side come to an equitable compromise.

Leadership is lonely

leadership

It’s true those that the top positions rarely hear compliments but rather complaints even when kind words are said. Those in leadership positions might hear a compliment once in awhile but the truth is it’s easier to complain then to truly do something about it.  Many people will say if ” I was in charge” but rarely take a step toward that role.  When a compliment is said it’s usually by those “true believers” who’s words might not seem as true over-time. Don’t get me wrong their are plenty of bad leaders that shouldn’t be in charge of a dog house let alone the …. but that doesn’t mean we can’t express gratitude especially when they step out and truly take a chance. Therefore take a moment to thank those who have went out of their way to try to lead.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the one leader that is always right, listens to all our words, is there for us us all, gives us the very breath and heartbeat we need to exist, that is our G-D.  We often forget to thank G-D when we are rushing through our lives, enjoying a moment and/or just living.  So on behalf of the 5 Billion or so beautiful humans you’ve created I want to express my eternal gratitude for your love, compassion, understanding and hope you bring to every soul.  I maybe one  very tiny voice but may my words ring true everywhere.

Artist vs Business Person

When an artistic endeavor is pursued whether it be a film venture, painting or other project two sides must constantly battle.  The artistic side wants to make the project perfect and therefore will truly never be satisfied while the business side wants to get it done and into the marketplace as quickly as possible. That is why it’s important to set strict timetables, dates that are optimally and dates that you have to reach or “move on”. This way both sides can be satisfied and your project will have the best chance to make it.  It’s also important to stick to dates because technology and styles change over time and if you keep shooting for perfection it might be for a past generation. No sign can completely win you just have to find a good compromise between the two.

Distribution of Independent Films

As the market gets tighter for distribution of Independent Films. Those filmmakers must think out of the cubicle to find new markets to sell their art.  These including working as a team such as noted in previous blog “Filmakers Society” and  looking for different niches that might be interested in their product. Here are a few suggestions (below).

(1) Hardware Store Distribution-There are distributors that sell thousands of stores at a pop so once you’ve sold one you’ve sold thousands. Here is where a P.O.S display would be helpful.
(2) Educational Institutions- Many H.S. need to show this films during  “a rainy day” especially a film with some strong values.
(3) Foreign Market- If your film has a diverse cast there are plenty of ways you can sell rights to different locations for distribution.
(4) Military Market- The military has plenty of down time and if you have a GSA or other governmental contract you might be able to slip in your film.
(5) Game Makers- Who might want to tell your story through a game and be willing to give you a cut of the profits in return.

McConnell wins Kentucky primary but the people lose.

Matt Bevin

It’s strange how people can vote for comfort even when that comfort is found on a bed of nails. Mitch McConnell beat Matt Bevin a businessman looking to serve his fellow citizens instead of the other way around.  Many long term incumbents are more interested in holding onto office because that’s the job that pays their mortgage then holding onto principals that bind their soul.  Yet many constituents will vote for the nails because they believe at least it’s a place that they know instead of searching for true comfort which could have only been a Bevin away

Extreme Extremist!

extremist

The word extreme is often used to silence your opponent because once the labeled is careful placed on it’s hard to remove.  A person should only be called an “Extremist” if the following conditions (below) exist otherwise those that use it are the ones who should have it placed on them.

WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE?

(1) Those that believe in violence against people who express an idea that they disagree with.

(2) Individuals who believe in breaking a felony law to get what they want.

(3) Those that believe other ideas must be silenced.

(4) Individuals who suggest acting in a hateful way to those they disagree with.

Political Change not politics

politicians

I have a great enthusiasm to see political change occur where more power is given to the people and less to the government but I hate the politics that can surround such debate.  The discussion and debate on ideas is to often thrown out and replaced by name calling, a popularity contest, and/or the style of the speaker.  When ideas that can truly make a difference gain traction the politician will usually resort to a bag of tricks to divert the public’s attention away from those ideas. Here’s a few ways (below) to fight back.

(1) Demand more debates from politician on the issues and punish those who refuse to attend.

(2) Ask specific questions on current policy debates and demand a clear answer. Pressure those politicians to answer the questions posed when they try to dive and dodge away.

(3) Put together a policy paper before an election that specifically and clearly states the politicians views on current issues.

(4) When dirt is thrown at a politician get a rag and wipe it away to reveal the truth about such an individual.

(5) Term limit all politicians  whether it’s on the books or not to insure that they truly understand the concerns of the common man and woman instead of the office they hold.

Standing alone- When it’s right

standing alone

There are times in our life when we feel we are standing alone against the world yet how do we know if that stand is right or whether it’s time to give in?  Below is a list of criteria to help you decide if it does. If you prove to yourself that your stand is correct remember that you are not alone in between those clouds of darkness G-D appears and will lead through this lonely path to the truth where others will be waiting along the shore.

(1) Does our stand add up or is it just based on an emotional need or desire?

(2) If it doesn’t add up in “today’s cultural” does it add up based on your spiritual values or ideals?

(3) If your stand is based on an emotional need or desire can it be expressed in a less divisive way that still enables you to express your individuality?

Filmmakers Society

filmmakers

It’s time to create a society that enables the talented film making community to work along with those truly interested in the art of making a film, to produce projects where everyone has the chance to get involved.  The “Film Makers Society” would be such an organization where you can play a role in making film(s). The role you play will be based on your talents, interest and financial commitment to the organization. Where various membership will receive different benefits but to keep it simple here is what the standard membership would get you (below).

(1) Invite to Red Carpet Screening.

(2) Invitation to watch production of films (at certain dates)

(3) Discount on film merchandise

(4) Vote on which film we should produce.

(5) An Opportunity to try out for cast and/or crew in film.

(6) An opportunity to be in an extra in the film.

(7) Special invite to any film parties.

WOULD YOU PUT YOUR NAME IN THE LIGHTS?

Family Pressure

family pressure

We all have been concerned with our children and peer pressure but how about family pressure? Most times family pressure can lead us do the right thing but sometimes that pressure can lead us down the wrong path as well.  Don’t get me wrong I don’t think too many cousins or parents will lead you down a life of crime (yet the Mafia is a family business) but there more subtle ways there pressure can hurt an individual.

Family Pressure can stop someone in a track they should be on or put them on a track to unhappiness.  Families have a tendency to play it safe and that can result in discouraging an individual from taking the needed risk to truly make their mark.  In today’s society they can also lead an individual from the values and faith that they are trying to reach as these families follow the values of the  Cryus’s instead of the Olsteen’s or Stengel’s.  That is why an individual must be able to resist pressure from friends and even family when it leads them down a path away from success and the truth.  A strong core values can help them in this resistance.
