Winning but losing

Many a times we will fight a battle as if it was a war and therefore win but end up losing. It’s important to realize when it’s time to say your piece and then move on so you can have the energy and resources to fight the war instead. Yet knowing when to concede even though you are right and move on is a difficult proposition. Here are some points (below) that I believe will be helpful in such a decision.

(1) TIME- Is it the right time to take such a strong stance or will it be perceived as arrogant even though you’re right.  Sickness, Poor Economic Conditions, Holidays may all play a role in that decision.

(2) WHAT YOU WILL LOSE- Could you lose a key leader, a great income, or even your house over something you truly believe in? Will it be difficult for you and your family to replace those needs and truly at what cost?

(3) DIVISION- Will your decision create extra tension between the community that might tear the fabric upon which you’re standing apart?

(4) GREATER GOOD- Could you win this battle but lose the greater good by bringing resentment that last way past this victory and create more tensions in the future?

If these conditions of battle exist maybe it’s time to have “a judge” (a person who will impartially judge the facts and come to a decision) step in and help each side come to an equitable compromise.
