A movie that had so much but left out the emotions.

Nelson Mandela

Sometimes there is a life story full of so much drama and emotion that you feel there is no way they can capture it on the screen yet at the same time  you hope they will at least capture some of those emotions. I’m sorry to say “Mandela A Long Walk To Freedom” misses on both those fronts.  The film tells the complex story of Mr. Mandela but never allows the viewer to be emotional drawn to the subject at hand. Of course the viewer is empathatic to the horrors of apartheid but loses the depth for the man who was the trigger that not only led to it’s appeal but brought true healing to the land. I believe this occured because the transformation that Mr. Mandela goes through from a lawyer to a rebel leader to a man of peace aren’t poignant enough to touch the audience.  The story though does show an accurate and indepth history of Nelson Mandela’s life but without the emotions that can hold the viewer well after leaving the theatre. ” Mandella A Long Walk to Freedom receive **2  1/2

Christians attack

Across various sections of this globe Christians are being attacked and killed for their faith … this must stop!  We can not close our eyes to the brutality that is occurring in countries such as Syria, Iraq, Nigeria and Egypt. Yesterday Christians in Bagdad were slaughtered as they tried to practice their faith in peace. I ask when will this senseless violence end?

As a person of the Jewish faith I implore those of all faiths to come together and defend every human souls right to pray in peace . The world must stop giving economic aid to countries that don’t properly defend all their citizens.  When one attacks an individual of faith no matter what the faith they attack all of us of faith. It’s time we stand together and say enough is enough.

A very Jewish Christmas

JEWISH CHRISTMAS

Christmas Day has always been a bit difficult for those of the Jewish faith. While the more traditional basically continue their standard daily activities those that less traditional observe it in various ways.  Here is what I’ve already done and G-D willing will be doing today. SHARE YOUR PLANS.

(1) Christmas Eve- Chinese and a movie at my Shul. The movie was “Crossing Delancey” a cute little movie for the season. Some times a little “Chick Flick” hits the spot.

(2) Volunteering at “Meals For Wheels”. We figured that they might be a bit short with volunteers today so we decided to jump in.

(3) Maybe catch a movie looking at “American Hustle” or ” Mandela long walk to Freedom” and grab a bite at the Kosher Deli.

(4) Help organize a ” Jewish Speed Dating” program  for people from the ages of 18-30 at Shaarey Israel in Montebello NY.

Don’t lose the point of sickness.

common cold

Have you ever wondered why we get sick? I’m not talking about life threatening or major debilitating illness but illnesses that stop you in your track.  I believe it is just for that reason, to stop us in our track.  Sickness gives us a moment to think how great we had it in when we felt well.  Yes, we might have had plans cancelled in the last moment or we sat in hours of traffic but at least we didn’t have to deal with this lousy runny nose and ….    Then G-D willing the next day or so we feel better and it gives us a new perspective on the world until we sit through hours of traffic or plans are cancelled again.  The point is we should hold  on to that sickness (not actually I’m not sure if their is a bag you can keep it in) so that it will give us the strength and even the ability to laugh at the difficulties we encounter on a daily basis.

CRAZY IDEA FOR THE DAY

A  “sickness bag” it holds your sickness so you don’t forget.

Hollywood needs me

new perspective

I know this title appears a bit arrogant but it’s true.  Hollywood should not be breaking down my door because of my good looks although if I put a bag over my face and cut out for my eye’s I am damn good looking. It also might not break the door down because I write like Shakespeare though thou might wonder where thee has gone (I told you I can’t write like thee).  The door will only be opened if they realize that my unique perspective can add more to their profit statement. A perspective that will be clearer if they just got the right prescription.

What makes my perspective truly unique and profitable for Hollywood is that my view of the world  is found in many yet  is  a market they truly aren’t capturing. They make movies for those with “conservative family values” but too many of those  movies are either boring, made for those under 12 years old and/or produced if we still lived in the 50’s.  Hollywood will produce great comedies or drama’s that will too often either be over the top for many and/or not hit the issues that reflect their lives.  Once in awhile a gem seeps through like the “Blind Side” and when it does the return on their investment sky rockets.   I can be that bridge so that Hollywood can produce films that are entertaining and appealing and most important appeal to a demographics they are ignoring.

My perspective comes from the values I hold dear and over twenty five years working and living in the real world.  I have been through a roller coaster of a life with various dips and spikes.  These experiences along with my values enable to paint a picture that Hollywood has never seen.  At this point in my life I’m just fine if Hollywood doesn’t knock on that door or even send an email but feel that if they do I could be one of a few new sparks that help starts a new fire of innovation in the film industry.
