Has this happened to you- New Year’s Resolution-2

New Year resolution
Everyday I spend a great deal of time with the same individuals but never learn their name.  I usually call them “Buddy” or “Hey You” but I’m pretty confident that isn’t their name.  How do I ask for there name after hanging out with them for a long period of time? It got so bad that I invited a “Hey You” to my party but don’t know what to call him when he gets here. They say you need to repeat someone’s name twice to remember it but what happens if you never got there name in the first place?  I’ve been told that you have to connect there name to a picture, that’s easy if the person name is blimp and their fat but how about Joe or David? This year I pledge to work harder at memorizing people’s names or getting them to change there name to “Hey You 2”  no I think I’ll just keep it “Hey You” I’ll forget the 2.

New Year’s Resolution-1- Listen

New Year resolution

This year I pledge to work harder to truly listen.  I will listen not just to the words that people speak but the emotions behind those words. Many a day I have so much to say and do that I  don’t take the time to listen to those around me. I may not get as much done but what I do get done will be better because I’ve listened.  I believe that G-D provides so many signs in our daily live but we are so wrapped up in what is occurring right around us that we don’t listen, I pledge to listen for those signs as well.  Therefore at times my blogs will be a bit shorter but hopefully the message will be just as deep or even deeper then before because I will truly be listening to the greatness around me of course including you.

Fear of Faith

don't speak

Today there are many people who do almost anything to avoid the discussion of faith or even those that show public gratitude to G-D. Why is this occurring?  Where does this begin and how can it end? I believe a few F words( that you can speak in front of your children) will help to explain what is occurring.

FUN: They fear that those who have faith live without the fun of the secular community. I can’t speak for all faith communities but know that my community truly knows how to party without bringing home someone else’s  wife.  In other words we have great fun times without the consequences many in the secular community would have.

FORBID: Many fear that if you join a faith community you will be forbidden to do many activities you currently enjoy (ex bacon). I understand that fear  but sometimes when you give up something voluntary you find something better to replace it (turkey bacon). You also can replace time spent running around with time spent being with your loved ones.

FEAR:  It can be intimidating to see those who observe those who traditional observe faith. They appear so strange and out of the “ordinary”.  Yet just because they follow that tract doesn’t mean if you have faith that you must follow that tract to the key. There are major factors of every faith and most don’t deal with clothes or music but the values and principals that keep a community together.

Life in extremes

extremes

I have seen our country move from one position all the way to the other position to the point where it almost seems absurd.   I found in wrong when people were denied basic rights in our constitution because of their sexual preferences but today I find it wrong that we silence those who’s moral and religious views oppose that lifestyle. I opposed our country getting involved in every conflict in the world but today I oppose us ignoring the denial of basic human rights in countries like North Korea, Syria and Iran.   Television shows like the “Brady Bunch” were way to corny but today there are no traditional families seen on basic television.  It’s amazing how this trend continues in almost every area of our political and cultural lives.

It’s time for us in the middle to say we’ve had enough and we want to hear all the voices!  We need not be in the desert or Alaska but can enjoy all four seasons.
