Bryan Mitchell- Yankee’s

Brian Mitchell

One thing you never expect to see is one of those things that suddenly appears. Baseball as in life can appear very predictable and sometimes boring but as seen with Bryan Mitchel getting hit by 155 ball maybe boring is what we need.  As you might know I’m not the biggest Yankees fan but I am the biggest human fan and therefore pray that G-D grants Bryan Mitchell a quick speedy recovery.

Met’s Amazing

Met'sNY Met's Washington Nationals

If you’re a die hard Met fan like me you’ve got to love what is going on, it’s August and we’re still winning!!! Not only are we winning but we are kicking the dreaded Washington Nationals butt’s in the first place.  I can hear echo’s of 1986 in the background but I still fear the voices might be too far away. Yet after last night’s awesome appearance which include great pitching,  3 Homer’s in one evening those voices are getting louder. If this continues I’m going to the only insane I want to Met’s Crazy. Let’s go M-E-T-S.

Crying does pay at least if you’re a Met

Wilmer Flores game winning run

I was told that big boy’s don’t cry but if you’re a Met fan or player then let those tears fall.  Wilmer Flores proves that it’s okay to cry especially if those tears of pain turn to tears of joy as you score the winning run against  the dreaded Washington Nationals.  We as Met fans have had our moment’s that were so close and disappeared that their is no way to stop those tear ducts or fist against the wall (tears are less painful).   This year G-D willing the 1986 tears of joy will come alive again led by our new star Mr. Flores who will show us it’s okay to cry especially if it’s for joy.

I could have been a contender!

sweating

I had the skill, drive and guts but never made it to the top because I couldn’t find it.  It is a sport that requires agility, concentration, and even has it’s own beauty but hasn’t been recognized by the Olympic committee or ESPN 5. The puck can move at speeds that would make any hockey player cringe yet there are no major tournaments in NY or the Tri-State Area.  I’m of course writing about Air Hockey and will accept it any challenge anywhere (as long as you pay for airfare and hotel accommodations) . So bring it on and watch a contender be born.

Are you really ready for some football?

Posted by Bruce - in arts and entertainment, Blog, NFL, Sports - No Comments

I usually look forward to football season and the escape it brings to my life but I’m not sure this year?  I understand they’ll be some great hits and misses but is that truly how I want to spend 3 hours of my Sundays? Is it so important for me to watch the latest greatest advertisement or could I utilize that time more efficiently? What about the effect the game(s) will have on my relationship with others? … Come to think about a few hours of brain freeze won’t kill anyone (I hope). Bring on the game !

Hockey anyone?

rangers

Hockey is a sport that I’ve enjoyed watching when I was a little puppy in L.I. but haven’t looked at again that is until last night.  The puppy part isn’t actually true but it’s been awhile since I actually watched a game. I believe the last game I actually sat through to watch was the Olympic game of the U.S verse Russia.  I couldn’t imagine a better hockey game so why even try to watch another game. It also proved to me that the fighting in the sport could easily be stopped and was sorta miffed that they let it continue.   As time goes on you realize you have less time and therefore you can’t watch every sport. You have to pick and choose and I’ve chosen football because it’s schedule usually works with me and even the commercials are entertaining.

Last night I gave it another look as the NY Rangers battled the LA Kings for the Stanley Cup.  It was as an exciting game as the sport would allow but it was hard to watch continuously  with that little puck going so fast back and forth. I thought I was watching “Pong” (old video game reference) on steroids.  These athletes have incredible talents but unless you see it live I believe it’s easily overlooked.  The constant motion doesn’t lead to the buildup of other sports except as time runs out.  As strange as this might seem I sorta miss the commercial interruptions, that give my mind a moment to get excited again when the action resumes.  To conclude I will stop watch the “Stanley Cup” although it will only be glanced at between my writing, reading and eating.

My Beloved METS

Mets

M-E-T-S  Mets, Mets, Mets is the anthem heard at Citi Field and though it is simple it is the that sound that calls me back to the my beloved team. Maybe it is that simplicity that draws me back as whole since the Mets represent an earlier form of the game. A time where families could go to the ballpark and enjoy a game without taking out a loan or withdrawing their entire bank account.  A time when all teams could compete on the field not just those from the big cities who spent exorbitant amounts of money on big name talent. The METS developed new talent from their farm system that wasn’t afraid to get their uniforms a bit dirty and slide head first into home to score that winning  run.

Today the Mets are in 2nd place not bad for a team that has faced untold injuries and doesn’t have the big names that their cousins across the water have.  They have won series against some of the best teams from last year. I know it’s early in the season but for us Met’s fan we thrill at every victory because we understand how much more effort it takes for us to achieve them.  As I finish this blog the sound comes back as it did in yesteryear  M-E-T-S Mets, Mets, Mets.   See you in October they don’t call us Amazing’s for nothing.

Go Hawks!!

seatle seahawks

Top 1o reasons you should root for the Hawks in the Superbowl

(1) History- I remember watching Jim Zorn put together exciting new plays that revolutionized the game.

(2) Derrick Coleman- A man who was able to conquer so many odds that were against him to make his dreams come true.

(3) Colors- The Seahawks have a better colors then the Bronco’s.

(4) Animals- Hawks kick butt while Bronco’s run away.

(5) Monies- I bet on the Seahawks (legally in Vegas) and if they win I’ll give the first person I see a kiss (unless they’re really ugly)

(6) Underdog- It’s always fun to see a team win when they’re not supposed to.

(7) Tim Teebow- He should still be quarterback of  Denver but he was traded away like a Bronco.

(8) Richard Sherman- Yes I know he was a bit absurd but it was refreshing to hear something different then the usual victory speech.

(9) Russell Wilson- A young man with strong values and great talent.

(10) Coffee- Seatle is home to Starbucks and who doesn’t love a little  Java in the morning like a  Carmel Flan Frappuccino (whatever that is)  I also  heard if the Seahawks win they’ll give us coffee for a dollar  ( Sure When Broncos Fly).
