A different take on Easter

Posted by Bruce - in Blog, Faith, Uncategorized - No Comments

I remember meeting my friends dad after his family experienced a tragedy. This gentlemen made a profound statement that even today holds true to my heart. He said “G-D wanted you to be a Jewish  so you should be a Jewish and G-D wanted  me to be a Christian so that is the path I’m taking.  This statement is truly relevant to my take on Easter and Christianity as a whole.

I believe G-D wants us all to believe in him but realizes that his message will be received differently from various people. Therefore G-D utilizes various messengers/prophets to reach all his children. Jesus was able to reach many people’s who were polytheistic and bring them to the a monotheistic faith.   When he died as a martyr it brought many people’s to the important values of sacrifice, forgiveness and true love.  Though we might differ on who Jesus was we can  be grateful for the values and faith his life has brought to billions of people.  HAPPY EASTER TO MY CHRISTIAN BROTHERS AND SISTERS.

Happy Pesach/Passover

Happy Passover

Happy Passover to all my fellow Jewish brothers and sisters. Let us not forget how G-D freed us from slavery and not forget those who are still in the bondage of tyranny from Africa to Iran let G-D bring freedom to all his children.  May the opportunities of freedom and peace spread throughout the lands as prosperity, hope and justice are the way of the world.  May your Matzoh go well with your system and may your families and friends enjoy the Seder together.

Not Listening!

angry

ADVISE IGNORED.  Isn’t annoying when you give advise and others don’t follow it. Advise that is truly nothing more then common sense but it creates so much drama between you and the person you’re trying to help. It is truly frustrating watching that person continually fall when they could be as strong as a rock if only they would have listened. How angry does that make you feel?
Now imagine that to the billionth degree. That is what G-D must feel like when we ignore what has been written. What is amazing is the compassion and love G-D still has for us even as we continue to fall. If only we could find 1 % of such compassion in our own hearts maybe the world would be a better place.

Jewish Faith Healing

I’ve decided to pursue a study in “Jewish Faith Healing” because it’s something that could truly come in handy. This pursuit will start later today and consist of standard research as well as deeper research which might involve purchasing items and traveling to various locations. This journey might be something that ends fairly shortly or continues throughout my lifetime.  I hope to update my discoveries with you on a regular basis in case this becomes helpful in your own daily life or of your loved ones.  Please note I will be throwing pieces of information on the wall in all different directions so you can pick and choose to explore the information as you deem important in your life. Once I’ve completed  my initial research I will come up with some personal notes on this information but will continue to search and then from time to time add to that thesis.  I LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR COMMENTS AND SUGGESTIONS DURING THIS EXPLORATION.

2/23/2014- It appears that many of the notes I have taken have been accidently deleted I will try to restore them ASAP-From Jewish Science-Divine Healing in Judiasm by Alfred Geiger Moses.  Mr. Moses claims that Jewish Science will fill a gap because it shows the art of genuine prayer in it’s real influence on everyday life.   The religion of Jewish Science is based on several principles which I summarize below.

(1) Body is a creation of all wise and good G-D

(2)  Sickness is violation of the laws of nature

(3) Health depends largely on the use of the body by individuals or the misuse or abuse which brings upon sickness.

(4) Worry, anxiety and similar states cause physical weakness and impairment. Good cheer and optimism promotes well being.

(5) Faith or religion is the highest form of optimism. Therefore religious faith heals & fights sickness.

(6) Religion in all forms has been the chief means of bring about cheerfulness and optimism.

(7) Hash-m is absolutely good.

(8) Prayers and devotion to heal sick.

(9) Therefore Jewish Science should play a large role in healing the sick.

Subconscious mind more effective than the pure idea of faith.

Jewish healing has occurred in the Torah through prophets such as Moses, Elijah, Elisha, Isiah, and Jeremiah.

Chasidim-Faith healers in their day. Zaddik or mediator modern Chasidism profess curative power from higher source.

Founder of Chasidism. Elizer Baal Shem Tob- Emotion above law.  They claim to have cured the sick by prayer, ecstasies, and gesticulations.  Love of G-D with faith and belief in prayer

Serve G-D with a cheerful and happy mind. Sadness and sorrow darken the soul. By constant communion, one may acquire the gift of prophesy and become Zadik.  Chasidism was very popular in early day.

Positive convictions- Health & Happiness – drives out every thought that disturbs body or mind.

In the tents of Israel the spiritual truth has been taught that the ills of the flesh and the sins of the soul can be overcome by the divine power of prayer and good deeds

Two principals have contended in spiritual life- Law vs the Spirit

Meshanneh- Hasshem- “The change of name”-  Those that are suffering could be saved from death. The “Angel of Death” would be confused.  This would occur at the end of a regular service.  The author performed this act on an individual first named Rebecca and changed to Ruth. Moses claims to have witnessed her healing.

EXODUS 15-22-26 – Sickness removed by serving G-D

NUMBER 12-  Moses prays for Miriam to be healed from Leprosy

KINGS CHAPTER 17 8-24- Elijah by faith heals widows son.

And he cried unto the Lord. And he stretched upon the child 3 times and said “O Lord my G-D I pray there let this child soul come into him again”.

KINGS 4 8-37  Elisha by faith heals son

He went in therefore, and shut the door upon them twain and prayed unto the lord. And he went up and lay upon the child and put his mouth upon his mouth and his eyes upon his eyes and his hands upon his hands and he stretched himself upon him and the flesh of the child warmed. Then he returned and walked in the house once to and fro and went up and stretched himself upon him and the child sneezed seven times and the child opened his eyes.

Chosen People

Posted by Bruce - in Blog, Faith, Philosophy - No Comments

chosen peopleTHE CHOSEN PEOPLE- What does it mean to be considered the “Chosen People”?  In today’s society it might appear to have special rights to do as you please but in the Jewish Faith it means the opposite because you must live in such a way that it sets an example for others to follow. It can be found in acts of kindness, empathy, justice and generosity to others or by the way you pray to G-D/Hashem -with all your mind and soul.   When you act in such positive ways G-D may show you additional paths to success and when you act against those ways G-D may cause you more hurt then others might feel.  Therefore being Chosen means you have more responsibilities to live in a faithful way every moment of your life.

#Voice, # Listen, #Faith

Throughout our lives a voice is heard for those that are willing to listen. It is not a voice of words but of action. It is the voice of G-D who sends us sometimes small signals such as meeting a long lost friend in an unexpected place and at time it is a louder voice like answering our pray on behalf of those that are sick. It might help us jump over hurdles or reach for the sky. It can be difficult to listen to that voice through all the clutter that is around us but it is always there and always cares.

Driving a car for the Sabbath

Posted by Bruce - in Blog, Faith - No Comments

MY  COMMENTS ARE NOT MEANT TO DISPARAGE THOSE THAT ARE OBSERVANT

BUT OPEN THE DISCUSSION.

KINDLE A FIRE

I’m not a Torah Scholar although I would love to play one in a movie but I can’t understand why it would be a sin for me to drive a sickly person home on the Sabbath. I fully understand (see following paragraph) why many of the faithful won’t drive on the Sabbath and respect their views but if we won’t drive those that are sick they may never get to hear the word of G-D during the Sabbath. If we made them walk and struggle to get to the Shul wouldn’t we in turn be making them work on the Sabbath because it’s such an arduous task for them? Isn’t it a Mitzvah to help those who are trying to observe the faith?

KINDLE A FIRE ON SABBATH- Is prohibited according to the Torah. This ruling has been interrupted by many a Torah Scholar (which I am not) to mean you can’t drive on the Sabbath because you create a “spark” when you turn on your car. I interrupt it more literal in the sense that the way you kindle a fire is the way they did when the Torah was given with two sticks or even matches and that fire was used only to keep warm or cook a hot meal. On the Sabbath therefore I won’t light a fireplace but would be willing to start anything that has electricity. WHAT DO YOU THINK?
