In today’s days I’m a rebel but with a cause. While society has moved further down the secular lane I’ve switched into the faith lane and am driving fast. For although I don’t wear the garb and speak the lingo well my faith is a key part of who I am and where I’m attempting to go. It is the opposite of a rebel in Torah/Bible days but we aren’t living then so I proudly so I am a Rebel for G-D. This rebellion includes being open about my belief’s when challenged to do so and trying to live a life that might go against the mainstream even I’m standing alone with only the one watching.
Abraham- Israel
G-D promises Abraham that the land of “Israel” belongs to his children. Yet Abraham’s children come from the 3 different great religions Judiasm, Christanity and Islam as well as faiths that break away from these traditions therefore is “Israel” promised to the world? Yet “Moses” as a descendant of Abraham and a prophet for the Jewish people is given a more definitive and descriptive form of the land of Israel which appears initially to be given to just the “Jewish people”. These revelations are followed by miraculous actions that allowed the Jewish people to gain Israel as their homeland and regain it thousands of years later. The truth between the 2 contrarian positions lie’s in between. For although the “Jews” appear to have the right to this land by G-D directly, as the chosen people they must open this land to others of different faith’s in G-D to practice their belief’s in peace and security. Therefore Abraham and Moses have it right for G-D wants peace and happiness in the holy land of Israel for all with the work and dedication of the Jewish people to insure this occurs.
2nd & 3rd Chances
You might have messed up but just remember it is written you will be given a 2nd if not 3rd chance. For as the Israelite’s were to wander 40 years in the desert, this order could have been rescinded if only the 12 spies believed that G-D would prevail against the odds. Two spies believed and they became the only one’s to enter the promise land, from their generation. We in own life’s can see our restraints lifting if we can stand alone if necessary and believe that G-D has a better plan for us and our family. Even if it appears that we are trapped in our own box there is a key called faith that will see us through.
Prove of Truth
Have you ever heard of a King who leaves his legacy to someone outside his family? A family of prominent individuals that led their people through battles that were fought with the direct help of G-D. Yet Moses was such a man who left his legacy to Joshua someone outside his family tree. He could have easily have ignored the will of G-D or pretended not to hear it but he followed this truth shouldn’t we listen as well?
G-D KNOWS
You might believe your thoughts are just between you but G-D is listening too. G-D knows when your actions don’t match your intentions and will add or minus that to your balance sheet. In the biblical story of Baalam, G-D knew that his intentions was to do harm to the Israelites and stopped him to show who was really in charge of the scenes. We might similarly think we can get away with it if our actions appear good but truly aren’t but G-D is looking behind our curtain every step of the way as G-D will decide who gets a standing ovation and who will walk away with tomato hair.
Ashes bring Life
Would the great powerful state of Israel exist without the completely evil actions of the Holocaust? Deep struggles and pains never seem to make sense when they occur but if we can take a trip in a time machine we would see the arithmetic a bit clearer although Einstein’s assistance might still be needed. This is what we learn from the biblical story of the burning of the Red Cow where the ashes in one case bring cleanliness from sin and the other bring filth. We may never understand the why this must occur but we should understand our fight will lead to better days for ourselves and/or our loved ones. For where there is great darkness light suddenly appears and will brightens up the entire sky.
It’s YOUR fault….. Korah
According to psychological analysis and statistics as a whole this title will probably be my least popular blog piece but it must be said. For how many times do we blame those in “power” for our problems when it’s our own actions or reactions that have landed us in the spot we are in right now? This is best illustrated by the biblical story Korah where he challenged Moses for his “poor leadership” skills as he lead the Israelite on their difficult destiny. Instead of challenging himself and the people to work harder on their own spiritual path he tried to take the path from their true leader that G-D selected. Maybe Korah believed as other’s outside the power structure, that they could do things better but until he actually stepped in the arena in some powerful way and make such changes with himself as well as others how could he ask to wear the crown? Yes, the more you claim it’s your fault the better the chance you have to change your path and many might follow your lead.
Vanishing Trip
Before my trip slowly leaves my mind I wanted to write down as much as I could about it which will include the good, bad and grotesque (probably just ugly but it’s used to much). So here (below) are some of the points I still can remember after 2 days back to normalcy.
(1) May 21st 6:45 PM we took Delta Airlines to Zurich- Unless you’re Kosher on a regular basis don’t order the Kosher food but drinks and movies are included. I can’t remember anything memorable that I watched because watching movies on a plane is as if you’re watching them from Times Square with all the interruptions. Drinks are included which is great and the flight attendants were very professional.
(2) May 22nd 8:45 AM arrive in Zurich. The airport is a breeze at least what I can remember and Uber worked great as we arrived in our hotel. The Hotel Crowne Plaza in Zurich is a fine hotel with a real gym attached. Most of the help was very professional but you always run into a jerk or two.
(3) We strolled the streets of Zurich finding a great place to eat, Sprungli which had the greatest Muesli I’ve ever eaten (the only one as well) and excellent coffee/pastries. This place also had delicious Chocolates from all over the world including Cuba (previous blog piece). The streets of Zurich are spotless with prices on goods that are out of this world. I also discovered a Chocolate bar that breaks the mold of the Swiss as it was 99% Cocoa while the rest usually stop at 74 %
(4) Later on we went to the old town in Zurich where we went in search of the best Cheese Fondue. Our search would be successful if you hadn’t eaten for a couple of days or were Swiss but for us it was overwhelming. For future travelers one Fondue feeds 4 American’s
(5) We traveled the beautiful streets of Old Zurich as my daughter took pictures from every angle.
(6) Day 2 of our trip and we discovered Chocolate Paradise as we went on a fascinating private tour of the great taste of Chocolates and other sweets in the town that basically invented the Chocolate of today . More on my tour can be found on https://budrebelproductions.com/2017/05/24/chocolate-paradise/
(7) Day 2 finished with one of the worlds greatest vegetarian restaurants which you can find incredible information on https://budrebelproductions.com/2017/05/28/vegetarian-nirvana-restaurant-investment/
(8) Our journey to Israel went smoothly although with less items then we like as we bordered El AL airlines. The Flight Attendants couldn’t have been warmer but the plane was a bit older then one would like especially if they were traveling past the 1980’s.
(9) In Tel Aviv we stayed at a beautiful boutique hotel called the Arbel which had warm and large accommodations for the whole family. Tel Aviv is one place that truly doesn’t know how to sleep at night as the town is booming with young fun even Elvis can be found singing there (not the real one but a Jewish version). I was trying to find the perfect restaurant but it was too busy so we settled for a delicious Indian Restaurant instead.
(10) The next day we took a private tour of Tel Aviv and saw their version of Greenwich Village unique individuals, a beautiful unique mall, the history of the Templers, Whiskey Museum/Bar and other sites my mind has already forgotten. We stayed at another wonderful hotel with great rooms called the Hillel.
(11) Our tour guide gave us a tour of Jerusalem the next day where we bought unique in the Muslim Quarter, Karaite Temple, ate delicious Shawarma, and our favorite stop of this tour the City of David which had some really cool tunnels.
(12) Friday night we had an emotionally trip to the Western Wall/Kotel not only for it’s spiritual value but because we lost each other along the way. It was wonderful seeing all the people wishing each other a great Shabbos as well. We stayed at the Montefiore Hotel and stayed in the same room which had a beautiful balcony until the members of Birthright decided to have a party at 1 AM.
(13) Saturday/Shabbos was a bit slower then my or my families normal pace. I journeyed to the Kotel but because I got up a bit late and a bit lost most of the major religious services were over. We ate at the Hotel which was nothing to write home about but still much better then the Kosher airplane food. Later we left to stay at our final hotel the Hotel Yehuda.
(14) We started the day with a delicious tour of one Jerusalem tastiest place the Mahane Yehuda market where our tour guide gave had us try some of the best spices, ice cream, bread, Humus and saw over 100 different varieties of Halvah. I learned that I actually like Halvah as well.
(15) That night we went to my cousin’s wedding in one of the most beautiful location in all of Jerusalem.
(16) The next day we took a flight from Tel Aviv to Zurich and slept the night way. Yet before we went on the Plane we had the Kosher version of Burger King which basically tasted the same as the non Kosher version before and after you ate it.
(17) We finally returned home from Zurich to NY and found the experience easier then we expected even the customs service was more efficient than in the past.
GENERAL NOTES
Zurich– Food and sites are great especially anything to do with Chocolate or Coffee
Israel- A beautiful country in which most will find a deeper meaning and moment then they would anywhere else in the world.
FAITH TOGETHER
If your Church, Mosque or Synagogue doesn’t involve you then maybe it’s time to seek another place to worship. For the holy temple where the world came to pray needed the help in some way of not a few talented individuals but the community as a whole. It was a group effort then and should be such today for nobody holds the entire path to G-D. Instead it is held together one piece at at time by all his children and when that occurs we will have a temple we all can pray at.
Shavuot Light 2017
I’m Shavuot light this year and hope it’s my right course. I believe those that observe the traditional path of this holiday are correct but also believe my path is right as well at least for this year. I don’t believe it would be right for me to take off a full day of work after being on vacation for over a week so this part of the tradition will fall by the waist side today. I justify my position by the statement in the Bible/Torah where it says only once (unless I missing something) that one is not to perform servile work today so to me that means don’t do work above your normal position needed for the day. This holiday celebrates the giving of the Torah to the Jewish people and also was a time when offerings were given at the Holy Temple. Here are ways (below) that I have and will observe the holiday. What ever way you find it in your heart and soul to celebrate this holiday if it falls in your faith may it be full of health, happiness and even a little cheese.
(1) TRADITIONAL- I went to services last night and learned a bit more Torah. I also gathered with friends from the Synagogue. I will be eating a bit more dairy in my diet today.
(2) UNIQUE PATH- I’m celebrating my father’s birthday tonight. The book says to celebrate with family and friends so that is on this schedule. I will also be handing out milk chocolate (against my chocolate faith) to colleagues.
