It’s funny how some people at 90 will act like there a teenager at a party while those that are teenagers will act like there 90 at that same party. While attending a wedding this weekend I experienced this first hand as my children’s butt’s were glued to their seats while me and the older crowd was dancing a storm.  My nieces and nephews showed what the new generation could bring to the dance floor as well. This was one of the most casual wedding’s I’ve ever attended as it occurred outside with a BBQ theme. It was a nice break from the traditional weddings I will be attending later this summer.

PARENTING: It isn’t easy being a father because you want to be a friend but you also have to be the enemy(at least in their minds) at times.  Pulling down a line and telling the truth to loved one’s can bring out the drama like know movie on T.V but it’s important that your role is still played no matter what the difficulty.

BBQ- I know I’m late to the BBQ season but it was our first one this year. I hate cooking thick pieces of chicken because you never know how long they should stay on the grill until you cut them into pieces.

father 2

In today’s world fatherly advise may be hard to come by, that’s where father.com comes in.  Whether it be because of broken homes, 2 mommies, father in jail, father that left too soon, or just once that forgot his responsibilities, the importance of a father figure is missing in too many homes.  Father.com is a website and 24/7 service that gives you the advise you need from a father who’s got years of experience and is also trained in counseling.  Father’s may not always give you the advise that’s easy to digest but it’s the advise you need to take in.  Father.com where a father is truly only a phone call away and never leaves you.

diary

This day was full of deep contrasts. At one point I was relaxing listening to a Synagogue service with family and the next I was cleaning up 20 years of a mess in my son’s room. The cleaning took me back to sixth grade where my teacher dumped my entire desk on the floor and had me clean it up in front of taunting classmates (there was no taunting here). Yet this incredibly embarrassing moment led me to be a bit more organized and a bit more self conscious.  Cleaning up can be quite annoying but finding those special moments hidden between the garbage can bring new excitement to the whole process and when it’s done you feel you truly accomplished something until the mess begins again.

MEXICAN FOOD- We enjoyed some great food with wonderful friends the only problem was the Margarita was a bit too weak or I was a bit too strong and got to watch a triple crown winner at the same time. What a great night!

WIN, WIN- We took our son’s non-Jewish girlfriend to the Synagogue which could result in her becoming more interested in the faith or deciding that the interfaith relationship is not what’s she’s looking for either way it’s better for the long run.

My Funeral

Posted by Bruce - in Blog - No Comments

funeral

I know this is a morbid conversation but after listening to a funeral from outside (Kohen’s couldn’t attend) I realized it was a conversation I should have before.  Here (below) are some of the points that should be included.

(1) 2 HOURS OR MORE- No person should feel rushed to give a Eulogy because there is a body (literally) right behind.

(2) BIPOLAR- It initially should be sad but as the service goes on it should on a happier note knowing that I’m in a better place (G-D willing)

(3) MUSEUM- Many pictures, thoughts and items of my life should be displayed throughout the funeral, Shiva call and even at a small permanent memorial.  These items should inspire others to keep those dreams alive that I couldn’t achieve in this lifetime here.

(4) FOOD, MUSIC, & FUN-Depending on Kosher law there should be a smorgasbord of some of the items I’ve enjoyed here for my loved ones to enjoy while I’m away.

(5) COFFIN- Save your monies on these expenses (my soul is getting the heaven out of there G.W)  and just have a dignified Stone where I’m buried.

(6) KOHEN-There should be a private air condition/heated room (depending on the season) for Kohen’s to listen to and hear the proceedings of the funeral without violating their faith.

(6) ANNIVERSARY-It would be great if there could be a yearly anniversary of my passing in which monies are raised for some of the charities that touched my heart when it was beating.

A final note although I won’t be here during this period I hope to leave some monies to achieve these goals long past that period and who knows when I’ll drop by and haunt you if they don’t occur.

Stomach Talks

stomach talks

It appears that my stomach is trying to have a conversation especially when my vocal cords are talking as well. Maybe my stomach doesn’t want to be ignored and is asking for something to be put into it or maybe it’s just bored of the variety of dishes I’ve choices all I know is it needs to shut up or at least tone it down.  I get the point and from now I’ll try to listen to you before I put that burrito with extra beans in (probably) all I ask is that you talk to me when I’m alone. You might have a good point but know one else needs to hear it.

Head transplants

head transplant

What looked like Science Fiction only a few years ago might becoming to a hospital in China within our lifetime. The Chinese government is spending millions of dollars funding this type of research which has occurred in mice and they are beginning to look at primates as well.  If this does occur many ethical questions should be asked first such as.

(1) How will the bodies be chosen for the heads to be placed on?

(2) Who will be able to retain such surgery?

(3) If the body is involved in a criminal activity will we be able to determine whether the head on top is truly responsible?

(4) Does the soul move from the old body to the new body?

Duggars & Family

duggars

I’m disgusted by the vile acts of Josh Duggar in which at the age of 14 he inappropriately touched four of his sisters and a babysitter  but wonder how much differently I would have acted if he was my son?  For it is easier to criticize those who act with a kind hand but not as easily to say the same thing when it’s their own loved one. According to the Duggars Josh did tearfully confess to his actions on his own and the family did immediately seek treatment for his actions.  Josh even confessed to the authorities for his actions.  Therefore other then ban him from the house for life I’m not sure what else could be done.  On the other hand I’m shocked that the Duggar’s would then proceed to have their family on a reality show after knowing about these incidents.  Once you go public you should realize the scrutiny your family could go through and how it could hurt the victims of such abuse and even those that are in recovery.

The F Word

teasing

Anyone who knows me understands that I don’t believe in the homosexual lifestyle but when I heard colleagues use the F word to describe that behavior it irked me.  It’s because I truly believe that consulting adults should be able to do what they  desire to do in the privacy of their own homes without fear of intimidation or retribution.  Just like the N word the use of F word brings back bad memories where individuals were called that derogatory term in this case because feminine traits were attributed to them. Once someone was labeled as such it led to either total rejection by their peers or becoming a self fulfilling prophecy for many. We may not agree with each others way of life but if they don’t harm others with it let’s respect their right to live that lifestyle.
