IT’S NOT WHAT WE SEE BUT HOW WE SEE IT
Anyone who says they aren’t Pre-judice truly doesn’t understand themselves. We all pre-judice people and products as soon as we see them or hear them speak. Whether we internalize those feelings or let them out is truly the only difference. If this wasn’t the case we would all pick the same clothes and buy the same products but certain products and people initially appeal to us. The truth is pre-judgement can help us avoid eating a restaurant that has unsanitary conditions or look at an individual who violently doesn’t want to be looked at.
The point is though can we put our away our initial pre-judements so that we don’t judge a person, product or place before we observe all the facts and information? Is our mind to set in a certain pattern that we aren’t open enough to hear, listen and learn from a different point of view? How do we insure that our initial pre-judgements don’t make us truly racist, anti-Semitic, etc.? Here are a few ways we can insure that we keep an open mine.
(1) On a regular basis listen to a radio station, television show, or art festival that normally wouldn’t appeal to you.
(2) Share a holiday or festival with an acquaintance that you’ve never experienced before.
(3) Openly discuss your point of view with someone who shares a different point of view with respect and listen more then speak.
(4) Learn to find the beauty in differences even if you don’t share there passion.
