Philosophy

This year I pledge to work harder to lead when there is a vacuum and lend a greater hand of support to those that are great leaders.  Leadership doesn’t necessarily require me to tell others what to do but to act myself  when others refuse.  It requires me to inspire others to commit to tasks that they have neglected.  I must also be willing to relinquish  positions of power to others so that work can be accomplished more effectively. I will also make a greater effort to show my public support to those who are showing great leadership skills.  This help could be an extra hand in performing a task, public complimenting them on their works and/or sending few pennies (even nickel’s) to support their great works.

I pledge this commitment in my business and personal life.  It is no longer enough for me to sit in the crowd when the crowd is just sitting and complaining to each other. We must act  as a leader or supporter if we truly want to effect change and make this world and our personal life’s better.

This year I pledge to work harder to truly listen.  I will listen not just to the words that people speak but the emotions behind those words. Many a day I have so much to say and do that I  don’t take the time to listen to those around me. I may not get as much done but what I do get done will be better because I’ve listened.  I believe that G-D provides so many signs in our daily live but we are so wrapped up in what is occurring right around us that we don’t listen, I pledge to listen for those signs as well.  Therefore at times my blogs will be a bit shorter but hopefully the message will be just as deep or even deeper then before because I will truly be listening to the greatness around me of course including you.

I have seen our country move from one position all the way to the other position to the point where it almost seems absurd.   I found in wrong when people were denied basic rights in our constitution because of their sexual preferences but today I find it wrong that we silence those who’s moral and religious views oppose that lifestyle. I opposed our country getting involved in every conflict in the world but today I oppose us ignoring the denial of basic human rights in countries like North Korea, Syria and Iran.   Television shows like the “Brady Bunch” were way to corny but today there are no traditional families seen on basic television.  It’s amazing how this trend continues in almost every area of our political and cultural lives.

It’s time for us in the middle to say we’ve had enough and we want to hear all the voices!  We need not be in the desert or Alaska but can enjoy all four seasons.

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Have you ever wondered why we get sick? I’m not talking about life threatening or major debilitating illness but illnesses that stop you in your track.  I believe it is just for that reason, to stop us in our track.  Sickness gives us a moment to think how great we had it in when we felt well.  Yes, we might have had plans cancelled in the last moment or we sat in hours of traffic but at least we didn’t have to deal with this lousy runny nose and ….    Then G-D willing the next day or so we feel better and it gives us a new perspective on the world until we sit through hours of traffic or plans are cancelled again.  The point is we should hold  on to that sickness (not actually I’m not sure if their is a bag you can keep it in) so that it will give us the strength and even the ability to laugh at the difficulties we encounter on a daily basis.

CRAZY IDEA FOR THE DAY

A  “sickness bag” it holds your sickness so you don’t forget.

Today many business owners will work tireless hours to keep up and build the business that their fathers have created. In so doing they will continue a tradition that enables their employees and the community as a whole to find consistent quality of work and employment that last another generation. In a world where many of the values and traditions we hold dear are continually tested these businesses will stand the test of time by providing trust that the community depends on or be forced to closed.

These business owners will have to prove that they not only have the character and fortitude of their parents but be able to move with the times without changing the basic brick and mortar that these businesses are built on. There hard works and efforts will be ignored by many who only see the “edge” they have on others. They don’t realize we all have an edge, some will spend hours upon hours to sharpen it while others let it rust or become dull overtime.  So the next time you see someone in their ” Daddies Business” thank them for all the hard work they’ve committed in continuing to bring quality work and employment to the communities we truly enjoy. The world may never realize how hard it truly is to fit in your father’s shoes and still be able to walk in them.

Many people believe to compromise means to give up on basic principles but I see some of the greatest compromises occurring when people hold true to their values. Whether it be the development of the House of Representatives (representing the larger state values) and the Senate (representing the smaller state values) compromise works best when everyone feels they won something. It allows people not only to save face but gives them the incentive to work together to make sure the goal is successful.

Recently at my Shul there was a heated discussion on where monies donated during religious services should go. One side believed that charity begins at home and therefore we should use the funds to take of running the Shul. The other side believed that charity monies should truly go to the least among others. The debate was getting heated when a man of principle suggested let the donor decide. This would occur  by putting up two boxes out one to fund the Shul and the other to go to those who are least among us. The donor would then put his/her money where his mouth is.  Compromise is not a dirty word when people can walk out of the room with their values still upheld.
