It’s a rare event to see the whole family together. It’s usually only occurs at funerals or weddings. Thank G-D it was the later.  Being the youngest of the entire family (cousins included) is positive until your about 12 but then it can become annoying because you’re treated like a baby in terms of what others believe you can do without the cuteness that brought them close to you.  Though the years though difference between ages become shorter as respect grows stronger.

WEDDING- My cousins from this side of the family are more traditional then me and you can imagine that distance my immediate family see’s when they consider me right on the border of Orthodox. I was the only one from the immediate family who participated in the wild dancing that occurred because they felt uncomfortable with the separation of the sexes. I see it both ways because sometimes individuals can feel isolated at a party because they don’t have a partner to dance with and this everyone could have a good time except those that are uncomfortable dancing with their own sex.

3 1/2 HOURS- I didn’t officially check my watch but I can conclude that I didn’t have more then 3 1/2 hours of decent sleep after the late night party and early morning ritual. Most of my body was ready though except my stomach still wanted to sleep.

PRESIDENTIAL DEBATES- I got my political muscle in order as I debated an intellectually powerhouse and an overall great guy at the wedding. Too bad he’s on the wrong side but there’s always another a wedding (G-D willing) in the future to change his mind.

It was another Monday for me but for the wife of a friend it was a last goodbye. Many times we take for granted being with a loved one and don’t appreciate those simple moments until it’s too late. If we move our hand away from a candle that is being lit we may never see it glow maybe if we can took an extra moment more to spend  with loved ones we would see the light they bring into our lives as well.

THE JUMP- While watching an episode of the “House of Cards” my dog decided to have a Bruce Jenner moment (yes Bruce) and make a courageous 4 foot jump into my lap.

SLIGHT PAIN- A slight back pain can slowly become a large pain if you don’t change the channel and move to a different network. I just hope the remote control is still working.

Living Will

Living Will

I want to live every moment not just exist yet I’m also “Pro-Life” so I write this to insure their is no confusion if the situation warrants such a difficult decision.  I want to be a Guinea Pig and have every experimental treatment possible tried on me if the picture appears extremely bleak. To defray costs I ask that the procedures be made public (T.V, internet etc) in a way that causes the least amount of pain to my loved ones.  If G-D forbid the doctor(s) say there are no options on the table and that my feeding tube should be pulled there is one I ask to be utilized. Allow my body to rest in a lake for 18 minutes with a few prayers along the way. If I recover it will be a miracle that will bring people closer to G-D and if it doesn’t well you gave me one last chance and allowed me one last chance for life not existence.

This day was full of deep contrasts. At one point I was relaxing listening to a Synagogue service with family and the next I was cleaning up 20 years of a mess in my son’s room. The cleaning took me back to sixth grade where my teacher dumped my entire desk on the floor and had me clean it up in front of taunting classmates (there was no taunting here). Yet this incredibly embarrassing moment led me to be a bit more organized and a bit more self conscious.  Cleaning up can be quite annoying but finding those special moments hidden between the garbage can bring new excitement to the whole process and when it’s done you feel you truly accomplished something until the mess begins again.

MEXICAN FOOD- We enjoyed some great food with wonderful friends the only problem was the Margarita was a bit too weak or I was a bit too strong and got to watch a triple crown winner at the same time. What a great night!

WIN, WIN- We took our son’s non-Jewish girlfriend to the Synagogue which could result in her becoming more interested in the faith or deciding that the interfaith relationship is not what’s she’s looking for either way it’s better for the long run.

Sorry diary but it’s been quite hectic lately and yet I couldn’t find anything key to write about until now.

PURPOSE Throughout one’s life we search for our purpose and at different periods the meaning for our existence might change. When I was younger it was just get through school and to work on my own. Later after years of working I wanted to be educated again. Today I believe that of course it is to make sure I provide a decent life for my loved ones, see some of my thoughts be discussed in the public sphere, and also to make sure that I open doors to discussion and debates from prominent clergy.

INTERFAITH DISCUSSION-  Although I lost all my notes at the last minute some how it all came together just right for our Interfaith Dialogue between a Rabbi, Imam and Minister on “Why Faith Is Important”.  The clergy provided such deep insight and I actually believe I did a decent job as a moderator.  I really want to see how far I can take this because I believe these voices need to be heard more then ever.

APPLEBEE’S – Today my daughter starts her first day as a hostess at Applebee’s and although it’s only a temporary job much of what occurs falls on my shoulders, since I pushed her to take this position.

I’ve always tried to perform some charitable act and today was no exception.  Meals for Wheels needed a handed and I provided 6 (with my children) along side.  To be honest this was the 2nd time I did this and it was becoming tiresome. Was I really helping individuals who had no where else to turn or was I continuing a dependent cycle that only hurt everyone involved. In the end I can’t tell you that my volunteer activities met the goals I set but at when I saw one older lady who’s husband served in the War I knew that it was going to some that truly needed it.  In the past my charity activities have included working for NY Cares,  Food Pantries (employment services), running in charity marathon’s, volunteering at Senior Citizen Centers and VA Hospitals etc.

I HOP- It still serves the best value breakfast for the entire family but leaves you with enough extra pounds to go to the gym.

CARS- We were looking for an Auto Stop car/Adaptive Cruise Control and were shocked at the ignorance of so many different dealers. The only dealer to truly understand this mechanism was Dodge and we will continue the search to find the safest car at the right price.

INDIAN FOOD BUFFET- Food was a problem today because we ate too much after I-Hop the Indian Buffet topped it off. Gym tomorrow.

DOGS-  I love my dogs but sometimes they hate my friends and show it. The wheels are in motion to insure that they learn to love or at least tolerate them and other four legged friends in the future

Wow, it’s amazing how life’s perspectives can change! There was nothing I dreaded more then going to Synagogue when I was younger (root canals appeared less painful) and now although I still have the lingering doubts before I enter, it all changes when I get there. Shavuot was just another great example. Where everyone at my Synagogue Shaarey Israel greeted me with a compliment and/or smile. It continued as I was the one who carried the Torah around and prayed for all the congregants as I did the  Dukhanen.  Who knew being a Kohen carried such responsibility and honor.

House of Cards -(Moment) I finally caught up to season 3 and let me just say it’s quite Presidential.  The show continues to have me glued to my seat although I find the glue remover in time for necessary body functions.

Fear (L Ron Hubbard) – After reading “Beyond Belief” a negative betrayal of Scientology and it’s founder Ron Hubbard I wanted to look into one of his books to see if it gives me any light into where this “faith” came from. It also appears to be a great read.

Family- It is never easy to have your children grow more independent especially when it relates to habits that you belief can be harmful to the family and themselves. Yet with a steady morale purpose that doesn’t push too hard I hope that my children will see it’s all meant for their benefit. Whether these choices are for college, dating, faith or friends I hope that by setting a clear path my children will see I’m on their side.
