My Personal Diary- Sunday 6-5-15

I know I skipped a few days or even weeks but I don’t want to bore the reader with trivial like what I ate for breakfast (although who knows where a healthy diet might take me) and instead want to focus on the more exciting aspects of life.

EXCHANGE- Our family has brought in an exchange student from France and this experience so far has allowed us to exchange some bad emotions with good ones. As this young bright young lady has showed us the beauty and excitement that we miss most days and has inspired us to be happier with our own environment. When my children were younger we had Au Pair’s in the house to help my wife. These young ladies came from all over the world (actually Germany and Africa) and the experiences helped us see the world in different “shoes” (see last blog). Just like friends most you lose touch of but one has stayed close and we hope to see her if we ever visit Germany.

BIG BIRTHDAY- My actually birthday falls out in the winter so I know many of my friends and family won’t be able to join in the celebration or at least have that excuse. Therefore to end that excuse I’ve decided to extend it to the summer and have invited them to a cruise in June along with my family. If you consider yourself to be one of my friends and have been left out please contact me. I’m not able to afford to pay for your trip but at least I’ll get you a beer or two to get you spinning along the way.

Gil Hicks -Visit- London Bombing

While we in the U.S might feel that it’s been awhile since any major terrorism has reached our borders we can not say the same for our friends across the sea. For in 2005 the London bombings has caused the death and destruction of so many. Yet sometimes when we don’t see a name attached to this useless violence we put it in the back of our minds and forget the commitment we need to battle such evil. That’s why Gil Hicks brave visit back to London showed us back in the states that terrorism still can’t be ignored. We must use her visit to inspire us to day when the evil of terrorism is wiped off the face of the earth and we all can live in peace.

Need to fight

Although they say “peace is the answer” for many life needs strong conflict. Let’s face it nobody wants to read a book that is happy ever after. Conflict causes us to take bold chances to make a difference when others are complacent. It can become the energy that gets people to work every morning or come home in the evening. Yet the difference between “healthy conflict” and “war” is the difference between competition and hate. Differences keep our mind and body going but war ends it all. That’s why we can’t destroy the beast in all of us but we need to channel it for good instead of evil.

Fit in socks1

Sometimes the shoes just won’t fit because the personalities are way to different that’s when you need to grab the socks. Walking in their shoes will only make you trip since their way to big or small and the world around them appears way to bizarre for you to absorb. That’s why a slow step in socks works just right. It might not let you fully understand their world but at least it’s a good start.

Youtube vs Facebook – the battle get’s interesting

It’s the type of competition that will only get heated over-time. Two Titans in the social media world are going head to head trying to get video content and offering similar revenue streams to those artists. Will youtube.com be able to fight it’s existing position against the onslaught of Facebook financial power? Only the future will tell who will be the victor but in between the artist will win with more options and financial rewards for their projects.

My new guilty pleasure…. Battlebots

Once in blue moon it’s good to take out your brain out and watch the boob tube. Last night was such a night as I watched “Battlebots”, a surprisingly entertaining show where robots go to head to head as if they were Gladiators in the arena. The funny thing about this show as I watching it with my intellect sitting on the table looking at me, these brilliant scientist and tinkers have developed these incredible robot killing machines. The show itself is brilliant itself with great announcers, special effects, and arena that has many sadistic elements that would be banned if used on people. “Battlebots” is action entertainment built not on steroids and blood but grease and oil.

Stupid but Brilliant?

You were supposed to play catch with them but it didn’t fit your schedule. That walk you had intended was done by someone else. You ran out of the house without saying goodbye. Don’t worry your dog is too stupid to remember or maybe it’s brilliant instead. For how many grudges do we hold on others for the slightest error’s of judgement that lesson a great relationship. The dog has no ability to hold a grudge unless you truly stepped on it’s foot or similar violent acts. They may appear too stupid to remember but maybe their brilliance is they truly forget.

“Banned”

I have been collecting item that have been banned by the government just before the ban goes into effect. Yes I do have a few “Styrofoam cups, the original Four Loko, 75 A19 bulb and even a “Twinkee” with delicious but unhealthy trans fats among my collection . Not only because I enjoy being a rebel but because I don’t believe the government should ban products (unless they cause immediate death or injury) to educated adults. It’s a shame but the way that our culture is going my own little collection is going to require me to buy a new house just to keep up with these “banned items”

Crazy Business- My Start

I had all my plans set in stone well maybe scrap paper (because they changed so often) but one was left off the page working for my family business. I was going to buy a gas station near my college in Rhode Island but then thought about the potential and my skills and that idea fell by the waste side. My entrepreneurial spirit led me to think about a store to sell all new inventions on consignment but as I was building the business plan I realized where my true expertise lied and how much monies I would need to open such an operation. Therefore logic replaced emotional desire and I decided that I would get involved in the business that I knew since I was only a preteen but on my terms.

” Buddy Building Products by BW” was born a sales representative business that happened to sell supplies from my family business. I would hit the road 5 days a week using an old fashion device “the Yellow Pages” to drum up leads. In the morning I would cold call 100’s of leads (maybe more like 50) to get a bite and if I didn’t get a bite that way I’d hunt them down in their office. Many a door was slammed in my face but over months and with persistence the doors began to be open and I started to make a living. I was no millionaire but at least I could afford my rent and food on the table for me and my dog. Yet as time went on I realized that I had to spend a bit more time in the office to make sure supplies were actually items were delivered to my customers, and that they paid their bills. That time changed from one day once a week to two and three … I think you get the point. I also realized “logically” that if I dedicated my time in the office that I would receive the other benefits (health insurance, free lunches etc) that I was missing on my own. Maybe if I spent more time with the family business I would have more time to build the other enterprise correctly. Yet once the steps into the family business began “Buddy Building Products by BW” was about to end and the steps would lead to 27 years in this “Crazy Business”.

Oppose Illegal Immigrant oppose….

If your opposed to illegal immigration then I guess your opposed to restaurants, hotels, and even fruits. If American Citizens would take the jobs of picking fruit, dishwashers, cleaning personnel, landscape work etc there would be no demand for these workers to come across the border. I’m all for the border being stronger to prevent individuals from illegally entering our country but let’s us not be naive for without the demand there wouldn’t be a supply. While we bemoan the drug dealer let us also realize that if there wasn’t an American drug user this dealer, whether home grown or illegally imported, wouldn’t exist. Therefore if we truly want to end illegal immigration a protective border will only be a hill to climb but cutting off the demand will truly stop the supply. In turn let American’s take up the jobs these hard working individuals fulfill and let us realize that we will pay more for the basic items and supplies we now take for granted.
