Independent Films VS Studio Production or how David can beat Spielburg

independent vs Studio

It is quite a challenge for an Independent Film-maker to make it against the influx from Studio Productions. Independent Film-makers can’t afford to have Christopher Nolan or Jennifer Lawrence work on their  production and they surely can’t afford to produce the incredible special effects or marketing campaign that the large studio have at their disposal.  Yet there are a few ways (listed below) that can enable your film to hit the mark.

(1) CONTROVERSIAL- If your film touches on a taboo subject it could produce a certain desire for others to watch. Let it touch those aspects but not go overboard  because if it’s too taboo then it will also be ignored by the media as a whole (ex The Woodsman)

(2) CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT- While studio films can focus on shots in many different locations an independent film must utilize less locations so the characters need to draw you into their world.

(3) ART- Major Studios will frown on producing a film in a different format but Independent films have the freedom to move in his realm and the audiences can be drawn to it

(4) NICHE AUDIENCES- Independent Films are produced at a much lower costs so they can make films geared to a very specific audience (ex Jewish Cowboys)… might be a bit too specific.

In the long run it might be difficult to make monies as an Independent Film-maker but at least you made a piece of Art that might be a bit too controversial for the studios to touch, that had great character development and was a piece of Art that you and the small world around you can enjoy for a lifetime.

TAKE CARE- Is an Independent Film that had such great character development that you could easily over look some of the difficulties in it’s development.  The characters draw you in step by step as you would be drawn into any relationship. Take Care truly insures that their viewers are given the best treatment with this heart warming comedy.

Kill a Cause

traffic

You could hold a protest to demand the government  send  a million dollars to me but if you make me wait in two hours of traffic I’m bound to turn against it. If it was two million that might be a different story. Seriously though those who think that I will be inspired to their cause while I stand, sit or crawl in traffic have got to have there minds examined. I appreciate the importance to allow free demonstration but not on the road that I’m traveling, Joe Smith on the other hand is plenty happy sitting in traffic across town.  Now if you’re going to protest and cause a traffic jamb maybe a free cup of coffee and donut would at least cause me not to despise your cause at least until my coffee is done.  Protest rallies and marches are part of the free expression many have fought and died to allow us to have but it wasn’t me last night.

sleep walking

MY ATTIRE FOR TODAY

There were several times I received two hours of sleep or less for good reason but last night was not one of them.  The birth of my daughter and son only allowed me a few hours of shut eye. I also  recall many an emergency waiting for service as my  son or daughter receive the care they needed for an especially high fever or bad stomach pains. Making the opening scene of ASU allowed me a few moments to see a sheep or two. Last night a traffic jamb made a one hour peaceful trip a three hour trip to hell and then my dog decided that two hours was enough time for me to sleep and our morning exercise needed to begin. I know that over the coming hours my mind will forget where I put …. and my eyes and mind will drift away to a different place but until then late the day begin.

Ferguson = Taser Training

taser

Whether you agree or disagree with the decision of the Grand Jury not to indict Officer Wilson we all can agree that the use of deadly force by the police needs to be reduced. This is one area where the Federal Government can be involved by equipping and training all police forces with the most up to date Taser equipment.  The use of Taser equipment will stun a perpetrator but not kill them and therefore reduce the need for deadly force to only when the officers life is in jeopardy. Police Officers also should have a body camera if they are working the streets to insure the public that they don’t take matters into their own hand, when confronting a criminal. Let us work to build a future of trust between the Police and the community they serve

Israel /Iran Operation Freedom

Iranian oppostiton

Israel can not wait another 7 months for the world community to decide what to do with Iran’s Nuclear ambition when there evil pursuit is bent on Israel’s destruction. It must act and in a way that’s efficient, accurate and where it’s fingerprints can’t be easily detected. This will take working with those who normally wouldn’t work her (Saudi Arabia, Kuwait). Here are a few steps I believe they should take. Please don’t share with Iran.

(1) Israel should be giving military training and assistance to Iranian opposition forces led by Reza Pahlavi.

(2) There needs to be military aircraft equipped with bunker bombs stationed in Saudi Arabia or Kuwait but camouflaged and painted in the Iranian Aircraft colors.

(3) A riot should occur at the Evin Political Prison.

(4) Iranian Opposition forces should be secretly snuck into Iran and plan an attack on the national grid system and take over the local T.V. and radio station calling for young people to get out in the street demanding a Green revolution.

(5) Israel disguised planes should sneak into the country and destroy Iran’s Nuclear capacity while this insurgent actions occur.

(6) Saudi Arabia and Kuwait should supply weapons and equipment to the opposition to support the success of the operation. Israel will secretly participate in those supplies as well.

Ferguson Verdict- POOR DESIGN

ferguson

Whether you agree or disagree with the decision not to indict Officer Darren Wilson we all can agree the optics were lousy. First of all why would they announce this decision at 9 PM at night when most of those who would seek trouble would have the greatest opportunity to find trouble at this time.  Second of all why would they have a white District Attorney explain the verdict when many people in the community are concerned about racial bias.  Finally why were they so insistent on having the grand jury proceedings in such secrecy since this only plays into the hands of those who seek to promote conspiracies.  Those who seek to find the truth should also worry about how that truth is going to be presented to the people.

Ferguson- Criminals win?

ferguson

Wouldn’t be a sick irony  if those that claim the death of an innocent individual led to the death of more innocents?  There are outside elements that want to institute violence in Ferguson Missouri if Officer Darren Wilson is exonerated in the death of Michael Brown. Is it impossible to think that a police officer might not try to maintain peace if those outside influences get there way because they fear for their reputation, career or even life in such circumstances. Right or wrong these Officers might believe if they try to do their job they might have to defend themselves and as such be accused like Office Darren Wilson of being a racist or have their own lives put in jeopardy for a community that hates them.  I’m sure most officer’s will act professionally in these circumstances but one look away or doubt in the perception of the work they do can truly hurt the important work they do in securing the peace.  Whatever way the court decides let’s pray for peace and understanding as the path forward.

GMO’s good or bad?

GMO'S

Genetically Modified Organisms have been portrayed as Frankenstein  type creations that are bent on destruction but I believe in many cases they might actually save lives. Many areas of the world can’t produce the crops they need because of the environmental conditions they live under but by altering the genetic code we can enable these areas to become self sufficient lessoning their dependence on other countries. This in turn will lesson their populations  plight of malnutrition and even starvation. Most of the world population gets their nutrition from rice but it lacks many of the vitamins that these people truly need but by genetically modifying that rice we can insure that these populations lead a healthier life.  I’m sure that there will be some Frankenstein’s created as we continue to modify food but if we carefully review these products before they go to marketplace we can assure the public’s safety as a whole.  It’s fine if you and your family refuse to eat any type of food that is your choice but let’s not deny the right for others to produce food that might help millions around the world
