Beer Police-A BUD REFLECTION

scary beer

I was thirteen or so years old and it was a beer that I truly will never forget.  My “friends” had gone to a local convenient store to buy items such as beer even though they were not of age. At this point in my life I had never had any alcoholic beverages except for my bris and I don’t remember the taste.  After they left the convenience store one of my “friends” gave me a beer to try but as soon as I opened it up a bright red flashing light appeared before my eyes. While my friends scattered like rats my legs were glued to the concrete as the officer approached.  I was put in the back of the car as my friends pushed the culprit who supplied me the beer to the police car as well.  The police officer took us for one of the longest rides of our lives even though it was only 10 minutes.  I learned two lessons from this incident one never buy cheap beer and to look both ways before drinking.

Sukkot- Basics

Sukkot

MINE IS MORE PRIMITIVE

I’m not a Rabbi and have not even portrayed one on T.V but my 40 (ish) years on earth as a person of the Jewish Faith should give a basic understanding of this holiday. I’ve listed a link  ( http://www.jewfaq.org/holiday5.htm )   for those who would like a greater understanding.  Here are a few of the key points I observe.

(1) Building a Sukkot- This is a temporary shelter that I eat in while more traditional Jews will sleep in. You might consider this a Jewish version of a tent but with much weaker walls and no real roof. The Bible/Torah speaks about it in Leviticus 23-41. I believe this symbolizes that although we believe that we can create walls to protect us from all the elements it’s only by the will of G-D that we even exist. We should continually be greatful for those walls that truly protect us.

(2) Lulav & Estrog. These are four plants that we utilize in our prayer services.  I believe they symbolize that G-D has brought wonderful bounties to our tables that we should enjoy.

(3) Laborious Work- On the Sabbath and Yom Kippur G-D forbids us to do any work but on this and other holidays it it laborious work. I take a more open interpretation on this word laborious then most of my traditional brothers and sisters and therefore will not work a full day but will come in during the late afternoon to help with any work that already came up.

(4) Celebrate as a Festival-This should be a fun celebration for the families and friends who celebrate the holiday.

Impress who?

impress

Sometimes I wonder who am I trying to impress and who are you trying to as well? Are our actions tied to our own self actualization or the self actualizations that we belief others expect of us? Could fixing our house, getting a fancy car, or putting in the extra hours at work  be more of acts to get the approval of peers or these things we want?  More importantly how can we truly determine the difference between the two? Here are a few (below) hints that might be helpful. Please share your own thoughts?

(1) Do you enjoy this activity or item when know one else is around?

(2) Would the satisfaction be much greater if others recognized what you have or done?

(3) Can you hold onto this memory or item after  all the fanfare is gone?

(4)  Could you get some of the same satisfaction if it was done anonymously?

It’s fine if some of your activities are done to impress others but in the end we must gain our own personal satisfaction for the successes in our life’s.

Organized Dump-A BUD REFLECTION

embarrassed

TRUST ME I EMPATHIZE

I still remember this event that occurred in 6th grade and let’s just say it’s a quite a  few years since I graduated college so you can imagine how traumatic it was.  Six grade was an extremely difficult time for me because I lacked any true self confidence, was a bit immature for my age and was extremely messy. This was demonstrated in front of my whole class when my teacher dumped out my entire desk on the floor. Please note this was the time when you kept everything in the desk I just kept a bit more.  While the class laughed at my humiliation I decided at that moment that I would never be this sloppy again. I can’t tell you there aren’t moments when papers and items don’t pile up but now a day’s I’ll be the one who does the dumping and it will be in my own private quarters.

Superman Bounded

dark superman 2

One Superhero that has not been portrayed well on the big or small screen is Superman.  This is because his character is two dimensional and it’s hard to grasp because we in the audience want to see him flushed out. While Batman and Spiderman have life’s before they’ve gained their superpowers that is not true with Superman. Thereof we need to see Superman bound up. Here is how (below) I would change the story.

(1) Baby Superman is sent from his dying planet Kal-Ed with a bracelet attached to his wrist which holds back his super powers until he is mature.

(2) He is found in the woods and raised by various foster parents until he’s finally adopted by  Jonathan and Martha Kent. He is given the name Clark Kent after Jonathan’s WWII veteran, dying father.

(3) Clark Kent is picked on in school for his thick glasses, awkwardness and strange if not quirky remarks. When he gets very angry he gets some unusual strength and his bracelet cracks.

(4) Clarks family is in a sudden car crash and Clark utilizes his power to try and rescue them as his bracelet cracks in two. He is unsuccessful in saving Martha yet a strange vision is seen by Clark and Jonathan  as they are taken to the hospital for observation. This vision reveals Clark’s true identity and the powers that he has.

(5) Jonathan and Clark will try to deal with these revelations as they also attempt to rebuild their family.

Dream Fighting!

bad sleep

Last night I got fed up with having the same dream and fought to get out of it!  In my dream I’m back in college and have forgotten where my classes are, forgot that key class that I needed to graduate, or even forgot to wear my pants (butt naked).  I could understand forgetting things but being back in college that’s a bit ridiculous already.  I actually told my dream to get lost and I think it ended there … a few dog licks helped as well. Tonight when I go to sleep I’m going to bring my glow in the dark diploma just to prove I graduated.  On the other hand maybe one more trip to college won’t hurt even if it’ only in my head.

Ignore – DANGEROUS

switching chanel

Today there is at least 45 % of the adult population that is tuning out the President. They’ll switch to a different radio or television station whenever the hear him speak. The President isn’t alone in being tuned out the news media outlets can be added to that list as well and it’s starting to seep through our entire society. It’s because the issue of trust has been broken.  Reporters aren’t truly investigating issues and people that they support and the President appears to blame everyone but himself when errors have occurred. He’s thrown entire villages under the bus. Scandals abound but investigations and honesty appear to be thrown out the window. Whether it be Benghazi, Fast & Furious, IRS intimidation, VA Hospital, You can keep… (you get my point) many people have lost faith and that is truly dangerous.  For what happens when G-D forbid a true national emergency occur like a serious terrorist attack, natural disaster or if Ebola truly starts spreading.  It’s time the President regain some of the trust of the office he holds here’s how (below).

(1) Admit to the public his shortcomings as a whole and steps he’s taking to improve himself.  Everyone should live and learn.

(2) Appear on  an opposition radio or television show (on a more regular basis) listen without name calling and hear there concerns.

(3) Appoint someone like Senator Ted Cruz to his Cabinet to work on improving the government is running.

(4) Have dialog with the opposition party on a more regular basis and find some common ground.

Confidence- A BUD REFLECTION

basketball game

I stared at my missed shot while the ball kept bouncing. This was how I learned what true self confidence was for while I looked at my missed shot and felt the world was laughing at me a friend who had missed five shots before demanded the ball to take another shot.  Didn’t he realize that same world was laughing at him? I had missed only one shot (it was way off) but he missed five how could he demand another chance shouldn’t he be embarrassed like me?  The truth is those with self confidence truly know how to take a shot or two or three and get back up.  They will not concede defeating even if a chorus of fat ladies is singing to them. It might appear as arrogance to some but when it works their mistakes vanish in air. My friend made the sixth shot and I believe won the game or at least in his head he did.

One further note this occurred in my junior year in college
