simchat-torah-celebration-2 simchat-torah-celebration

These are not the scenes (above) one expects to see at a religious observation but during Simchat Torah you can put your hair down and even your feet as well.  For it is a party full of love of Torah and love of those that come to celebrate the good book. There’s dancing, eating as well as even a little drinking to make sure you feel the love all over and this time everyone get’s to not only hold the good book but dance with it as well  (toy versions are available for the young or young at heart).  So break the monotony of religious observation and join us for the celebration. Coming Soon!!! (This Sunday Night) to a Shul/Synagogue near you!

EXAMPLES

Shaarey Israel- 18 Montebello Road,  Suffern, NY-6PM

Any Chabad House- approximately the same time

Noah’s Ark Found ?

As a person of faith I hope that this discovery is substantiated by science but even if there are doubts at least it adds to our faith. For faith isn’t about knowing every fact but searching the holes to find a deeper truth which science could never reveal.

Sukkot to me

sukkot sukkot-2

In my youth I never knew that Sukkot actually existed and only experienced it’s beauty and warmth in my later years. It might appear cold to eat outside in this fairly weak structure but understanding that my ancestors lived in such primitive structures (as they traveled to the homeland) builds a bit more warmth even in the coldest days.  For how else can you explain their survival if not by the love of G-D that made sure it didn’t come crashing down on them. Even today we feel we might feel we are well protected in our sturdy structures but just like a Sukkot one strong wind can knock us off our pedestal.  Sukkot gives me a few moments in my day to reflect on that love and pray that it will continue to bring warmth to us all.

NAKED

They were naked and didn’t have a care in the world. I guess the weather was not to hot or cold but just right.  Yet one bite and their feelings toward the Full Monty changed immediately.  It was a revelation that occurred which set them apart from the animals which roamed the garden. For now and every more they and their children and many, many grandchildren would feel dirty if they didn’t cover their private parts. Is it because wearing clothes separates us from the animal as we try to cover up our body which hides many secrets/sins that only G-D can see. Just to think about it  a couple of  bites from an apple and the fashion industry was born.

Afflict Myself

afflict-yourself

Today I afflicted myself in a way that I had never done before.  For today was Yom Kippur a day when I normally fasted for a bit over 24 hours but this time I took it a step further. I restricted myself from you! Those who would normally read my daily brilliant and not so brilliant blog piece read absolutely nothing at all. For some that was a blessing in it self but hopeful only a few.  It actually took more will power to give up writing for a day to you then any item I could have consumed.  Yet I realize that this ability is not due to the fingers that press my keyboard but the hand of G-D that allows this simple mind and fingers to get my point across.  I thank G-D that this has occurred for so many years and pray it will continue for many, many more.

SORRY!

sorry-4

On this day before the night of Yom Kippur I publicly ask for forgiveness for any act or words that have unnecessarily caused you pain. Whether that act was done intentionally or accidentally I hope that you have in your heart to accept this plea. It could have been simply forgetting a greeting, not openly expressed gratitude or not having that tear in my eye for those in pain that has caused my light to be dimmed in their eye’s.  Just as I ask G-D to see me in a brighter light I hope that those I’ve hurt in some way can turn on their own light toward me. In return I will try to a better person to you and to those I’m blessed to encounter, as I pray that G-D will lead us all to a new year filled with health, wealth, happiness… on this path we call life.

Different Role

crew-in-film

In film-making as in life certain individuals are given certain roles and when everyone fulfills those roles just right you have a wonderful cut but if one is off it can destroy the whole production. For example it is difficult for the sound engineer to worry about lights and still have the time, energy and skill to do both. Even though the actors might receive much of the accolades any smart performer will realize who is truly behind making them look good.

This is similar to my synagogue which has different roles for men and woman. Although some positions may receive much of the praise those that are truly spiritual will realize the value of each individual person as if they were the screw that held it all together. G-D knows the value of each individuals role in the society we exist in now it’s up to us to recognize it as well.

Quit for ….

quit-5

It’s time for you to Quit…. for the day! You’ve worked to hard to deserve this treatment and the real boss must know your serious that is why this Saturday you silently tell your boss (in you head) that you quit! Of course this coincides with the Sabbath a day where I regularly quit my work and stuff it where the sun don’t shine till Sunday. Quitting work for the day enables the mind, body and soul the fortitude to not quit the rest of the week.  Therefore enabling you to receive your physical paycheck starting next week and G-D’s paycheck for the day truly a worthy combination.

Your Awesome!

mirror-2 pointing-at-you-2

You as a person and an individual of faith are awesome as long as you follow these two key principals.  One you have respect for individuals of authority and two you have the will power to restrain yourself from immediate satisfaction.  G-D does not expect perfection in human’s otherwise he wouldn’t have made us with all these faults all he wants is us to strive to be better. Faced with the world around which appears to grab at whatever comes their way and shouts down as well even assaults those who through their expertise and experience deserve respect your path is awesome.  If you’re of the Jewish faith and want to hear such inspiring messages maybe you want to join us one Shabbat to hear such inspiring words from Rabbi Jay Weinbach and if you’re not of the faith or have a different road to get there keep those words in mind so you’re walk in life will be awesome as well.

Holy Place

Posted by Bruce - in basic judaism, Blog, Faith - No Comments

holy-temple-1   holy-temple-2

There was a time when most nations would come to one place they considered the holiest place on earth.  The Holy Temple was such a place where peoples would sacrifice their livelihood to the one G-D that brought them to this existence.  Although many faiths have similar locations today such as the Vatican, Mecca,  Wailing Wall etc it’s not the same in spirit as the holy temple was and even if it is, for too many it’s still a place most can’t afford to go to, on a regular basis. Therefore we must visit synagogues, church’s & mosques etc that are closer to our locations, which helps us maintain some of the holiness we would encounter at “the Holy Temple”.  Yet that is not good enough for our holy place should be within us as a whole whether it be at work, school or relaxing at a beach.  As we get farther from the actual structure maybe some of the walls of rigidity of faith become weaker but let’s not them collapse as a whole.  For eventually we will be at the doors of the most sacred place and how we acted in our place will determine how many keys it will take to enter.
