running for office

BUT IF MY UNCLE ….

Don’t worry I haven’t  decided to seek public service… yet.  Many conditions would have to be just right for me to make such an important decision including I would have to have at least one other supporter and it can’t be the four legged type.  What this post concerns is how I would actually run if those conditions were met. I don’t mean do disparage the political consultant because they have the expertise and knowledge that I lack but I believe it’s more important to get you’re message  out and truly be a public servant then worrying about winning the race at all cost.

If I sought public service I would truly run and expect everyone on the campaign team to keep up with me.  That means this would be my full time job in which every moment would be utilized for this goal and I would expect my core staff to agree. I would also need a staff that told it like they saw it but when a decision was made act like it was their idea no matter what. Here are a few more key factors (below) that would belong to my campaign.

(1) Thank even the smallest contributor or even those that just support the campaign regularly and personally by me or a core member of my staff. Insure that I keep a list of each one of those supporters and get them involved in the campaign as much as they are capable of doing.

(2) Visit various locations in one community then move to next community making sure that I stop by the “hot spots” and listen.

(3) Every Saturday visit a Shul/Synagogue and every Sunday visit a Church followed by a volunteer activity in that community.

(4) Insure that I take the time not only with the friendly press but those that oppose my views and try to find some common ground without changing my philosophy.

(5) On Thursday night visit a local bar and share a beer or wine with those attending.

(6) Have fun and show it. It’s important to take the position seriously without putting yourself to high on the pedestal.

(7) Pull out not only the skeletons but the bodies from the closet early so people can see me for who I am not the character the opposition media might betray.

(8) Have honest answers to the problems people are facing be empathetic  with their pain  and  most important always listen.
