wolf of wall street

What can I say the wolf got me! I expected to find a movie that was gratuitous with sex and drugs but found all those aspects important in telling this story. I expected to have no feeling for the main character but the wonderful script and the acting of Leonardo DiCaprio pulled me in and left with true empathetic feelings. I guess they truly know how to sell a pen. In terms of film-making this film deserves the nomination of best movie of the year with a wonderful score, great cinematography and incredible sets not to mention again the terrific acting and script. It’s going to be a tough race to decide. MY PICKS FOR THE OSCAR WINNERS SHOULD APPEAR LATER THIS WEEK

OSCAR COUNTDOWN – 12 Years A Slave – “Important”

12 years a slave

There is no way a book or documentary could capture the despicable act of slavery in all it’s aspects as “12 Years A Slave” has done. What “Shilinder’s List” brought to the viewer concerning the Holocaust “12 Years A Slave” has succeeded with concerning slavery in America. At times this film is extremely painful to watch but without that pain the viewer could not truly understand the horror of slavery. In terms of film-making “12 Years of Slave” captures all the elements; great acting, wonderful cinematography, terrific costumes and a script that truly enables us to explore all the aspects of the characters. The only negative comment is some scenes could have been left out because they didn’t advance the story or give it additional depth It is true that people go to the movies to be entertained but sometimes the entertainment might be hard to digest. What is key is to a movie is the lasting impression it leaves on it’s viewer and “12 Years A Slave” will leave an impression that will last a lifetime.

***** Stars- WORTHY OF IT’S NOMINATION OF BEST MOVIE OF THE YEAR along with “American Hustle”

Captain Phillips Review

Captain Phillips

Captain Phillips is a fine film but not the “best film of the year”.  Great acting by Tom Hanks and most of the cast but nothing extraordinary.  The film was done well but again nothing exceptional.   The best part of the film was the way the directed dealt with the after effects of the attack if only there was such a development done at the beginning of the film  we might have had a better film

***  stars.

Lone Survivor

lone survivor

It’s a movie you truly want to love but with out the depth of character development it’s truly hard. The story tells the true story of what our Navy Seals battle and die for in their call of duty and touches on their brotherhood yet it misses the mark.  We learn more about the chaos and brotherhood of battle from this film then in most other war films of our time.  We also see how confusing it can be in determining who is the enemy and who is a friend during the act of war.  If we had met these four individuals during boot camp, with their families and/or during their youth it would have truly rounded out their characters and made it a wonderful fill. What is strange is the book has such a depth of these experiences that the movie has left out.

** 1/2  Worth seeing add a 1/2 star if you’ve read the beginning of the book.

American Hustle is “BRILLIANT”

Posted by Bruce - in arts and entertainment, Blog, movies - No Comments

American Hustle

Wow! What a terrific film.  It’s great to see a movie that has the full, package. Incredible acting that showcases the wonderful talents of Christine Bale, Bradley Cooper, Amy Adams,  & of coarse Jennifer Lawrence.  Great score that flowed well with the action on the screen. A script that would make any screenwriter jealous.  Finally Cinematography, costume design and set design that makes the 70’s come alive.  “American Hustle” deserves it spot in the category of best movies of the year. ****

See if you spot the one flaw after Jeremy Renner – Mayor Carmine Polito beats up Christian Bale – Irving Rosenfeld

Oscars

I can honestly say I haven’t seen one of the movies nominated for the Oscars this yet. I plan to see “American Hustle” this weekend to start my own judgment but just like the other nominees the trailers didn’t attract my attention.  I understand that these films maybe beautiful and full of brilliant talent but are they truly entertaining. That is what I hope to discover in the next few weeks.

HAVE YOU SEEN THESE FILMS? IF SO DO YOU BELIEVE THEY ARE THE TOP FILMS OF THE YEAR.

BANNED 2

IS THIS CONCEPT TO POLITICAL INCORRECT TO BE MADE INTO A FILM

Daniel is a man that has a strong feminine streak to him. He has played with dolls since he was a child and even enjoyed wearing his mothers clothes so everyone assumed he was “gay”.  That was until he met “Danny” a butch type woman who everyone assumed was a lesbian. Can these two truly hit it off it’s “An Extreme Love Story”.
