Wayward Son

Glutton 3 drunken 1

One of the most difficult passages to read in the bible is what to do with a “wayward son”, for I’m one who hasn’t even picked up a rod let alone a stone.  To think that the bible calls upon one to have their son stoned (not the Colorado way) if both parents agree and bring it the higher authorities that their son is drunken and a glutton.  The key points are both parents and bringing this information to others.  I believe these strong terms are used because we must instead take strong actions to help our children when they are down and this must come from both parents in love as well, compassion and strength.  No parent should give up hope that things will change for the better if they really make a greater effort to seek to help their children even if it’s through “tough love”.  G-D uses such as direct harsh language to touch on our emotions so that we can never become so cold that our loved one is just a stone throw away from truly leaving us.
