I believe most mental health conditions can be traced back to guilt that someone is holding on to. A good therapist/psychiatrist should try to get that person to the point where the understand where such guilt comes from and whether it is real or just perceived to be so. If the guilt has some relevance to an incident that is occurring or is happened in the past the patient will need some help in erasing this painful memory or lessening the impact. The therapist weaves a delicate web where the patient must find their own solution to erase those feelings without adding to it. Medicines might dull the pain but I believe only a real exploration of such guilt will cleanse it completely.
