Why am I fine with the BET Awards but find the whole idea of the Negro League repulsive? I guess it is because of who formed it and the purpose of both groups. While the Negro league was formed by White individuals to keep African American’s out of the sport the BET Awards was formed by African American’s and meant to demonstrate their diverse talents in various forms of entertainment enjoyed by all. Receiving a BET Award means that you are recognized for those talents that enhance not only the community but I hope society as a whole. While many talented individuals participated in the Negro leagues their achievements were meant to be kept in the African American ghetto’s instead. Therefore we should have the right to take pride in our groups achievements whether it be by race, religious, cultural etc and recognize individuals who make those achievements as long as those groups make the decisions and hopeful help benefit society as well.
