Prejudice = Bullying

    After watching the film “42” I realized that throughout history prejudice has been used as a form of sanctioned bullying. Whether this prejudice was based on race, religion, creed or sex it enabled those who had a grudge against society to find an escape goat for all their problems. Those in power supported even tacitly using the blame game because it would inoculate them from the blame they actually deserved.  Those who want to stand up for the victims are afraid to as this bully (the one with the big mouth) intimitates them through their own power structure.

    Today this form of prejudice is predominately seen  in the political debate where those with different political opinions from the mainstream are labeled by the political elite. For example once you are labeled an extremist it is okay for those in power to ridicule you and push you down. We lose the great insight of these individuals  because their ideas are never fully discussed and debated in the mainstream. Engaging in this form of bullying for any reason is wrong and we should instead have a rational debate with respect to all sides. Therefore the next time someone from “your side” uses a deragotary label on someone from the otherside stand up and tell them that you don’t accept this label and want to hear their point of view. Whether that voice come from a  black, white,  Jew, Christian, Muslim, Republican, Tea Party, Leftist, and or combination of the above all voices deserve to be heard, respected and debated.
