Democracy and the bullet.

gun owner

Today’s news in Venezuela and the Ukraine demonstrates again how democracy can crumble in a heartbeat as those in power have the bullets to stop it!  When we surrender our rights to protect our families with firearms we also prevent our ability to defend tyranny.

I understand that if the entire force of a country was against the citizens it wouldn’t take long for that force to win but at what cost to that government?  I also believe most people who serve in public service are good people who believe in the democratic form of government but all you need is a few evil men/woman with the power and their unwilling subjects to crush it for all.  So the next time the government tries to register gun owners or regulate their ownership just think of our friends across the sea that traded in those rights and ended up with tyranny.

I’ll buy that bridge …. please

They are going to take down the “Tappan Zee Bridge” at a cost of millions to the hard working NY’s  which makes absolutely no sense.  They could sell this bridge to a private consortium or if they like I’ll buy it from them even I paid them 10 dollars it still would save the taxpayers millions.  There is no logical reason I can find that they have to spend our monies to tear down this bridge. PLEASE HELP ME FIND ONE. Here are just a few ways this bridge could be used.

(1) As a private option for those traveling from Rockland to Westchester. This way the public option will have to be top notch or the consumers can take the private option. Imagine less traffic on bridges because of competition reduces the carbon footprint (for my green friends) makes travel more efficient (for my business friends) and enables you to spend more time with your family or friends (helps those in the mental health industry lol)

(2) If the bridge can’t be sustained for car traffic it can be used as walking, bicycle and or motorcycle bridge with nice small restaurants and stores on the side.

(3) It could also become a green bridge with grass and trees planted as well as small boutiques and restaurants along the side.

Person vs Politician

people vs politicians

I don’t mean to offend my politicians but the way many of them deal with failures is quite differently then the rest of us “common people”.  Many of us will feel bad when we buy a product for our company that doesn’t sell or buy an item for our house that doesn’t work but many a politician will continue to buy that bul**** without an ounce of remorse especially if there friend is the one who’s selling it.  Us commoners feel great remorse when our work doesn’t result in the success we plan while many a politician will blame that result on others or say it just a few more millions of our dollars to work.

See the difference between us and them is we actually have to live within a budget that is based on actual numbers not the ones those in the political world use.  If we fail to live within our budget  which become more and more difficult with taxes upon taxes we can become a slave to our work . We actually must accept our mistakes or lose a job or wife while they have plenty of room for excuses whether it be through a radio, television or newspaper that is in their corner.  The truth is we need politicians that aren’t just politicians but people who have truly had to live the experiences we go through. We need political leaders that aren’t afraid to listen, discuss and debate those with alternate ideas and plans. We need politicians who realize that the monies they are spending on our behalf are the monies we’ve earned through hard work and sacrifice. The truth is we need politicians that truly listen and care.  It’s time we start electing people that truly understand what means to be a  public servants not a political hack.

The world hasn’t seen the last Bush

George P Bush

He’s got the looks and the name but does he have the political muscle to continue to pull ahead?

Click to find the youngest Bush to enter the political spotlight.

It appears that American’s love a political dynasty from the left and the right.  The “Kennedy’s political future has dimmed as have many from the left but the right appears to be rising with a new Bush added to the landscape (see link above).  Is this a new wave of young conservative leaders with familiar names moving up the stream or is this just a fluke? Food Stamps are there limitations?

Recently you might have heard how people are using their food stamps to buy Marijuana. This story has added to the alarm that taxpayers have felt after seeing individuals also using food stamps for items such as porn and alcohol. Yet what should food stamps be used for?

I believe food stamps need to be there as a safety net for those least among us to insure that they receive the basic food and nutrition to survive but nothing more.  The current system equally rewards those who are trying to escape poverty with hard work the same as those who are living on the system. This government systems keeps those impoverished by enabling them to buy items that hurt their ability to become independent. We need to change this system so that we can continue to help those less fortunate and give them the ability to escape the bonds of poverty that they are stuck in. We also must realize that these monies are taken away from the hard working  taxpayers pocket and therefore they should have a right to decide how these monies are spend.  Here are a just a few ways I would consider changing the system.  WHAT LIMITATIONS IF ANY WOULD YOU PUT ON FOOD STAMPS/EBT CARDS.

(1) EBT cards can only be used for certain food items and basic necessary supplies that are beneficial to those who are utilizing these services and are reasonable priced.  Some of the changes would be instead of soda you would get seltzer water and instead of chips you could get nuts etc. The basic necessary supplies could be paper towels, toilet paper, soap, shampoo but only reasonable priced items.

(2)  Those who are working either part-time or full-time would have a gold EBT card which would enable them to purchase additional food items for their families

(3) EBT cards could not be used to withdraw or add cash to them but only to purchase food items and necessary items listed in 1.

Confused 2

Arizona’s new law which would allow business to deny services based on religious reasons is causing confusion for me. On one side I believe that it is wrong to deny people the right to shop at a store because you disagree with there lifestyle. On the other side shouldn’t people be able to practice their faith the way they see fit even if that faith continues at their place of business. If individuals would just “truly respect” each others differences then this wouldn’t be a problem that needed a law to fix. For example if a gay couple wanted to get a cake I’m sure they could find a bakery to suit there needs without imposing their values on others. WHAT DO YOU THINK?

A need for a floor

Posted by Bruce - in Blog, Philosophy, Political - No Comments

FLOOR

I recently had a discussion with a true libertarian who truly believed in individual responsibility. I concur that individuals must truly be responsible for their behavior but there must be a floor, that we as society should fight to insure people can’t fall through. A floor that will enable those who are at the bottom the opportunity to pull themselves ahead. This floor would insure that a son wouldn’t have to worry that conditions at his father’s work place were so dangerous that there was a good chance he wouldn’t return. A floor which would insure that those who worked had enough food on the table and shelter so that if mom got sick and couldn’t work, they wouldn’t starve and live on the street. This floor would insure that those who are truly disabled (mentally ill, Cancer patients, etc) have a living standard that they can survive on and have the ability to make changes in their live.
The question is where does that floor end so that dependency doesn’t begin? If that floor is too comfortable with Fleece Blankets and Goose Filled pillows it might be hard to get up and make something more for your life. We need those in our communities to determine how strong they want their floors to be with some basic funding from the federal government to local charities that can efficiently disburse those funds to the most needy.

WHAT DO YOU THINK SHOULD BE ON THAT FLOOR? HOW WOULD YOU DECIDE WHO GETS THE FUNDS?

Is this really happening?

This article (below) is too bizarre to be true! Whether you’re on the right, left or middle there are certain guarantees (from our constitution) that we all must stand up and say enough is enough. One of these is to insure that the press is free to write “the truth” as they see it without the fear of intimidation from those in power. Freedoms shall not be decided by the government that we elect but are our G-D given rights. Basic freedoms must be protected for all our citizens!

Click and fight back

I didn’t think I would have to add this article (below) to the list of government intrusions on constitutional rights but I’m sorry to say that I do. Freedom to practice your faith as you see fit should not be infringed by this or any other government. It’s not whether you agree or disagree with a stance it’s the right of a person to be able to practice their faith as they deem proper that must be protected.

We need Ronald Marco not Jimmy Obama

Egypt Erupts

#Ukraine, #Freedom, #Ronald Reagan, # Marco Rubio

There was a time when America held the torch for freedom around the world and it’s time a new set of leaders grab onto it again. While Freedom is being crushed from Syria, Iran and now the Ukraine our current President makes our nation look weak as it did in the days of Jimmy Carter. Freedom doesn’t necessarily require blood but the fear of our enemies that we will defend this goal. Ronald Reagan aptly applied this skill on the world stage. Ronald Reagan built our defenses and was willing to work behind the scenes to watch so that leaders like Lech Walesa had the ability to fight for freedom. We need this type of leadership from a new generation of leaders who can speak to the people in a clear and concise voice. A voice that shares their values and goals today I believe that voice is Marco Rubio.
