A tower of lies

tower falling

It’s important to try to shoot for the stars but sometimes our greatest achievements are right here on earth; that is what I believe the biblical story of the Tower of Babel tells us. In this story the people’s of the world built this large tower to the heavens to try to show their greatness, G-D’s response was to disperse them across the globe. We sometimes forget when we are going for that big dream those behind us who are truly helping us in our daily achievements and for that we may need to get a sense of reality. Whether that occurs in a hurricane where we lose electricity and realize how fragile our possessions are or in sickness when all those other goals fall to the wayside; we must keep life’s goals in prospectus .  Shoot for the stars but always remember the ground where it all started and where you are still standing.

An interesting perspective or not?

Cain-and-Abel 2

I had a brain freeze as I read the biblical story of  Cain & Abel. For after Cain kills Abel he is sent away and marries a wife in a different town with different people but the bible only shows that his parents Adam and Eve only have Cain and Abel so where did his wife and the other people come from and why this confusion so early in the bible? Why doesn’t the bible give a clear lineage of all the peoples.

If we are to believe the bible as it is written then I believe we must assume Adam and Eve had other children during the time of Cain and Abel which aren’t named directly in the good book but why? In life we can become consumed with small items that we believe are so significant that they’ll change our whole life and the life of others but our plans may not be G-D’s plans.  For G-D knows when our name will truly be called and just like those in the good book they may happen at a time of our youth or when we appear old and gray. So we should live each day as if that will be the day our named and not dwell to much on our past glories or failures.

Kind of apple?

eve apple

GLOWING EFFECT IS SORTA COOL BUT REALLY?

If you were going to destroy the chance for eternal life, make woman go through labor then that apple must have been very tempting. It couldn’t have been your standard Mcintosh or Granny Smith, Golden Delicious is moving in the right direction but still far from truly that tempting. Maybe it was the dish it was served on or was it the server? Eve was known to be attractive in her day especially since there was no other competition. All I know is if I was around in those days I would have chose a peach or banana instead, not only do they taste better but I heard there health benefits last a much longer lifetime.

Simchat Torah- A Celebration

Simchat Torah

IT LOOKS HEAVY

This holiday is one of the happiest holidays and toughest holidays in the Jewish Calender. The happiness comes from the extra drinks that are served and the dancing around the Torah. It marks the end of the reading of the Torah/Bible and the beginning of reading a new from Genesis. It reminds us that G-D’s words never end and continue as a cycle in our lifes. The toughest part is dancing while carrying the Torah’s. It’s a great workout especially in the upper body.  If you think you’re so tough why don’t you join us in the celebration as well.

Sukkot- Basics

Sukkot

MINE IS MORE PRIMITIVE

I’m not a Rabbi and have not even portrayed one on T.V but my 40 (ish) years on earth as a person of the Jewish Faith should give a basic understanding of this holiday. I’ve listed a link  ( http://www.jewfaq.org/holiday5.htm )   for those who would like a greater understanding.  Here are a few of the key points I observe.

(1) Building a Sukkot- This is a temporary shelter that I eat in while more traditional Jews will sleep in. You might consider this a Jewish version of a tent but with much weaker walls and no real roof. The Bible/Torah speaks about it in Leviticus 23-41. I believe this symbolizes that although we believe that we can create walls to protect us from all the elements it’s only by the will of G-D that we even exist. We should continually be greatful for those walls that truly protect us.

(2) Lulav & Estrog. These are four plants that we utilize in our prayer services.  I believe they symbolize that G-D has brought wonderful bounties to our tables that we should enjoy.

(3) Laborious Work- On the Sabbath and Yom Kippur G-D forbids us to do any work but on this and other holidays it it laborious work. I take a more open interpretation on this word laborious then most of my traditional brothers and sisters and therefore will not work a full day but will come in during the late afternoon to help with any work that already came up.

(4) Celebrate as a Festival-This should be a fun celebration for the families and friends who celebrate the holiday.

The Fast

A NEW YEAR- START’S A BLANK PAGE

On Yom Kippur those of the Jewish faith from various walks of life and backgrounds will come together and fast. The fast is our final act to ask that we be forgiven individually, as a people and as people’s from around the world. This is also a sacrifice so that we can truly realize how we are blessed by Hash-m. How often we take for granted the food that we eat and the steps that we have taken not fully accepting how fragile these resources truly are. For there are many in the world today where finding food and substance is a daily battle and we must not only thank G-D that we aren’t in this situation but also fight that this suffering will end as well. We must take the take during the fast to reflect on our lives and how we can truly be a better person. I want to wish my fellow Jews an easy fast and Gmar Hatima Tova= May you be inscribed in the book of life for good and may this blessing be upon all good people’s around the world.

Honey for the world

tasting honey

As a new year in the Jewish Calendar approaches I of course want to wish my Jewish L Shana Tova a Happy and Healthy new year yet I want to extend that prayer to all G-D’s children around the world.  Rosh Hashanah gives those of the Jewish faith a chance to redeem their sins so that they can be written in the book of life and become closer to G-D before the last day of Yom Kippur where the book starts to close until the end of the fast.  We not only ask for forgiveness but need to forgive those who ask as well through words or deeds.  Although those not of the faith don’t have to go through the rituals that we practice I still pray that G-D will forgive those who stand with us and let them enjoy a happy and healthy year. May G-D bring us all closer to his beautiful words and give us a bit more honey in our lives.

A Song

jews singingsongs of praise

It’s amazing how you can forget names and dates but a song can survive a lifetime.  That is why I believe G-D told Moses to teach the Jewish people a song about the miraculous escape from Egypt and how he will protect those who bless his people and curse those who damn them.  G-D chose to make the words into a song so it would insure that these words aren’t forgotten and those that ignore them due at their own peril.

Today songs can be used to bring us together or pull us apart. Many of us gather at  houses of worship to pray in spiritual hymns that bring us closer to our creator.  Yet many of those filled with hate, jealousy and rage can utilize songs to divide us from each other and G-D, as heard at the recent showing at the Metropolitan Opera. Let us pray that G-D’s songs prevails and we can come together in peace, harmony and love.

Can evil reside in an object?

evil mirro

Can an ordinary household item possess an evil force. That is the question many horror  movies ask whether it’s “Oculus” that explores an evil mirror to “Amityville Horror”  where an entire house is possessed. We have even seen an innocent doll  possess an evil spirits (The Last Exorcist).  This is a haunting question to those in the antique business who are either selling a beautiful item that has survived or an evil object that has killed.  I’m not sure if this has been used in a criminal defense case but if not I’m sure someone will come up with it sooner rather then later. The truth is we may never fully know unless we become or witness such evil in our own lives.    Yet those with true faith fear not because there is a greater force of good above any evil.  To conclude if an object makes you feel uncomfortable throw it out and buy something new that would kill many a horror script but at least you’ll be happier

A simple faith.

light through

People say they’re not “religious” but not having faith means that you are missing some key ingredients in your life.

F = Forgiveness- If G-D can forgive us for everything under the sun surely we can forgive others who ask for that act either through word or deed.

A= Attitude – G-D who is the king of all kings still guides and protects all his children. Who are we then to have “attitude” with his other children.

I= Integrity- If we truly want G-D to honestly provide us to the path of happiness. We must have that integrity with others around us.

T= Togetherness- Understanding that we all come from one loving G-D who are we to separate and divide those of “true faith” no matter are differences.

H= Happiness- Faith enables those who carry it the happiness to understand that they’re is a meaning to their lives and that G-D provides us the tools to enjoy it.
