It wasn’t what was in that shocked M-E it was that nothing was expected in return? All my life I’ve attempted to earn what I receive and then suddenly you hand me “this” without any alternate motive? How is that possible? You say it’s just an expression of gratitude but I’ve been the one handing out. Kindness without anything in return honestly confuses me so I open with trepidation. Wondering what will suddenly pop out when I put my guard down. Kindness for no reason in return that truly is shocking and I have no clue what to do with it?
