Brave New Jersey- Independently Brilliant

Brave New Jersey Friar's Club

Brave New Jersey is a brilliant independent film that I was brave enough to watch at the world renowned Friar’s Club last night. The film was loads of fun with better character development then most of the “big studio” films and laughs that I broadcast as far as even New Jersey.  The world might have appeared to end for many of the characters in the film but it was alive for the audience throughout it’s 90 minute running time.  “Brave New Jersey” is a well made comedy/drama that allows the whole family to laugh together without car-tune characters  and that is brave in today’s film market.

NAACP time for a change

NAACP NAACP 2

The “NAACP” has done great works for the African American community but as time changes shouldn’t this organization. First of all it’s name needs a modification if Nissan can go from Datsun then Colored can go African American.  I understand there would be a few more A’s but is it really so radical NAAAP.  Furthermore the mission of NAAAP (see it sounds better) would be advancement through building pride and accomplishment within the community through independent success not governmental interference. This organization would showcase success in even the most difficult areas/conditions and seek ways to build on it through local community efforts instead of the big arm of the federal government.  The NAAAP should change for the benefit of those it serves and their advancement as a whole.

Your Walk

Your in charge of the walk …. within limits. We have a certain time to return within limits.  The trip can’t go in too dangerous spot(s) within limits.  There are certain sniffs and edibles I refuse to allow you to intake within limits. Weather has an effect as well within limits.  The truth is it’s your walk and you are in charge.. of course within limits.

Irrational HATE!

hate 3 Hate 2 hate 1

I’m not one who believes all “Hate” isn’t constructive, for if someone comes in the middle of the night to attack you and/or your loved ones, you must have enough hate in your heart to defend them by any means possible.  That form of hate is rational and can be utilized for true enemies domestic and foreign that seek your utter destruction. Whether it be  a terrorist organizations, gangs, or leaders of rogue regime leaders such as the Mullah’s in Iran who all plan to hurt your nation and indirectly/directly you.  There is also “fun hate”, this form is not down to the bitter bone but one where “you” hate a specific team, genre of music, or band. You might refuse to “watch” but don’t actual seek their annihilation just don’t seek their success in your world you watch or listen too.

Angry Protest 1 Angry Protest 2

Irrational Hate on the other hand seeks the destruction of individual or group based on “feelings” that aren’t fully backed up by words or deeds. These individuals may act or say things that trigger such an initial response but one that should last for a moment not weeks, months or years. This type of hate doesn’t allow one to see the good this individual is doing for others or even themselves. Certain “media” outlets and political extremists can add fuel to this fire when it comes to individuals such as a “President” or other leaders. This form of hate does more to harm the person who has it then the person they are hating.  Whether it be feelings of anger that add dangerous stress to one’s life or sadness that burns one’s heart, irrational hate hurts much more then it can help. Irrational hate should be eliminated from one’s body whenever possible and be replaced with hating someone’s words or even action and still loving the person as a gift from G-D. Maybe it’s a gift that you fully haven’t unwrapped and therefore should look a bit harder for the good side.

An Artist Mindset

Posted by Bruce - in Blog - No Comments

An Artist 1 An Artist 2

An artist isn’t a certain age or form of expression but a mindset. For an artist main goal is to have their works noticed for what it is not necessarily the green it returns. Of course most artists truly don’t want to starve (unless it is part of their expression) but monies aren’t the motivating force for their creation. They might even be willing to take on a position that has nothing to do with their desires, so they have enough income to pursue their art in the way their mind perceives it.  Once they are willing to sell their art away from their heart/soul then they are no longer an artist but a business person instead and they lose the color that has truly made them happy.

Jim Acosta Vs Stephen Miller -You’ve got to love it !

Jim Acosta Vs Stephen Miller  was a beautiful bout between right and left in which Mr. Acosta through a key upper cut that left Mr. Miller wobbling out of the Press Box.  Stephen Miller threw all the liberal talking points at Mr Acosta who appeared well prepared to defend his stance with poise but maybe not enough grace.  Jim might have won this round but must continue to be prepared for Stephen is in for the long term waiting to take on Donald Trump himself with his own upper cuts.

Better/Worse Children

parent and child parent and child 2

I’m going to date myself but the children and young adults of today have it better and worse then I had in my days. Of course technology has added many more conveniences but has made their lives so much easier or more busy with aspects we never considered when we were young. Here are a few (below) other improvements and drawbacks of being a child today vs yesteryear.

IMPROVEMENTS

1. Bullying – Schools are much more prone to crack down on bullying where as in the past it was just part of growing up.

2. Options- There are so many more options with entertainment then we ever could dream of in the pasts.

3. Openness-  Children feel more free to express their emotions with family members then they did in the past without the formalities.

DRAWBACKS

1. Social Media Competitiveness- We might have had to compete on who has more friends but never to the extent of actually counting them in front of the world.

2. Inside- The child of today is drawn more to the world inside their house then the beauty of what they see and feel outside.

3. Free Time- There is much more pressure to have your child active 24/7 and therefore time for creative down time is drifting away.

Political Incorrect Dog

It definitely isn’t politically correct but you could name your dog anything and there is nothing almost anyone could do.  Of course if the name is to “crude” others might look under the covers to see if they can find any animal cruelty but if you’re above board the name will stick even if it offends the world.  Unlike human’s dogs really don’t know and they don’t have the power to change their own name.  I’m not recommending you act in such a fashion but if you do please chose a name that makes us all laugh not cry.

Countdown Begins

Countdown begins ripping up papers

In less then a year two major financial burden’s will be lifted from my families tree, the question then becomes whether I will create a new one to replace them? For in less then a year as long as the crap table of life doesn’t pull a major 7, my mortgage and children’s college expenses should be over. With those big numbers being taken away will other costs of life make up the difference? Who knows but G-D willing I’ll get to this period on schedule and feel a certain comfort knowing that I’m a bit more financially free then I’ve been in over 20 years.

Dunkirk- A Different Look

Posted by Bruce - in arts and entertainment - No Comments

dunkirk 2 dunkirk

Dunkirk took several steps down a different path then many other fine films would have gone.  These steps could easily have made a poor film but because the other elements worked so well you still have a fine picture to watch. Here are just a few that I noticed.

(1) LACK OF CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT- There is no depth that we discover in any of the characters through words but their actions sometimes gives hints of who they are and how they are developing.

(2) INTERLOCKING STORIES- The characters have disjointed stories that only somewhat connect upon further review.

(3) HERO’S DON’T WIN- There is no true victory feeling/glory  for those we would consider the hero’s in this story.

*** It is amazing that this film still captivated my attention and drew me into what the characters were going through even if I never really got to meet them.  Maybe this is a bit closer to what war really feels like from those who are in the midst of fighting.
