Should more African American’s adopt the Confederate Flag as their own? To some this might seem absurd for didn’t it represent the states that enslaved their ancestors? Yet for others the flag represents a totally different point to “rebel” and not follow the powers that be. By taking that symbol and insuring it has the later representation of being a “rebel” we destroy the symbol of those that want to use it for hate. This is similar to the stance many African American’s have taken with the “N” word which I still refrain from using. They have taken control of this previously “hateful” word and modified so they are in control of it’s connotation. Maybe we all should try to do the same with other symbols of hate that were previously used against or race, religion, creed sex because once we empower them to our side we might just gain a new sense of power as well.
