wall street Journal

Here are the news stories that really made me think and the questions I asked.

(1) Three major signs point to a bear market is about to occur. Is it worth to start selling or should you wait till the storm passes.

(2) Will they introduce a $3 a month phone plan in the U.S. ? What would this actually cover.

(3) 1,700 were killed in Iraq in the month of July that is down from 2,400 in June.  Does it make sense that the media continues to focus on the Gaza Strip?

(4) President Obama is realizing a report claiming that the Bush Administration allowed the CIA to torture” (water-board) after 911.  Is this really a problem worth correcting?

(5) New rules on cupcake fundraisers at school fundraisers have been adopted. Couldn’t we do a bit more exercise after or before the cupcake instead?

(6) Uganda throws out anti gay legislation on a technicality.  How about they throw it out because the government shouldn’t be involved in what consenting adults do in the bedroom?

(7)India’s Manufacturing is up 17% in July.  I wonder if American jobs were pulled away and moved to India?

(8) Russia has added a 3 % sales tax.  Will this bring down the Russian economy and hurt Putin with his people?

(9) Peggy Noonan wrote an interesting article on how the current division in a country might truly divide our nation into separate parts. Does a leader need to find common ground so we can still have those divisions and still feel like one nation?

(10)There was a fascinating article that defended Zionism. Why should Zionism have to be defended when it’s successes not only benefit it’s people but good people around the world?

(11) A fascinating article explored how much we actually see and what  we truly miss? Is it truly worth looking at that painting a 2nd and 3rd time?

(12)If you want to remember words from foreign language it’s best to use imagery and memories.  I wonder if they teach these techniques in our schools?

(13) Two American’s with Ebola are returning to the U.S. for treatment. Does this open the door to more victims of Ebola coming to the U.S. and would we be prepared if they came?

embarrased

IT’S OKAY WE’VE ALL DONE IT.

Let’s face it we all have those silly little television shows or music that we’re embarrassed to admit that we like. Maybe the confession will hurt us with the “cool kids” or “cool adults” but today I start my own confession. Feel free to join me it’s quite refreshing to let it out while others continue to feel they have to hide their pleasures behind closed doors. Remember it’s not murder just a slow killing of your brain.

(1) Gilligan’s Island– Simplistic character, simplistic story and 1/2 hour of great brain freeze time.

(2) Bay City Rollers– S-A-T-U-R Night- Yes I was caught up in the initial mania but at least it helped me spell.

(3) Welcome Back Kotter– The jokes were just the start of a great lousy show.

(4) Sponge Bob– This one I don’t feel so guilty about I heard it’s one of the most popular shows in college (for those that are high)

(5) One Direction- Yes it’s contrived but still the harmony brings it home especially when my mind feels empty.

I’d continue but there is a great episode of the “Brady Bunch” when Peter throws a ball in the house. What drama I wonder what’s going to happen?

3rd Temple

holy temple 2

Last night while I was looking through Facebook post I thought I saw a post on rebuilding the Holy Temple but when I looked later I couldn’t find it. There are four explanation that I could think of; first it was deleted, second I’m seeing things (pink elephants etc), third I’m too lazy to look further or fourth it was a sign. I’m going with the fourth for this blog.

The Holy Temple in Jerusalem was a place put together with donations from many nations and where the world came together to pray to G-D.  This Temple permitted many to bring sacrifices for forgiveness or offer sacrifices to  thank G-D for all the bounty that they have received.  In today’s world where we see such division would the building of such a temple unite us or would jealousy of who controls it destroy it before it was even built? Would walls of separation come down between people’s or would new walls come up? Maybe it’s worth considering taking those first baby steps and see where it leads us to. If G-D wants it soon his helping hand will see that it is built if not then G-D will know at least we tried. What do you believe and why?

Are they worth 1 million an episode?

big bang theory

7 MILLION – That’s a “Big Bang”

It’s the number 1 comedy in America but would increase their salaries from 325,000 an episode to  1 million ? That really is a Big Bang!  If I was the management side I would consider introducing a new character at a bargain price (I’m available and cheap) and therefore cut my costs per episode. Maybe it’s time to write an episode where we actually where “Sheldon” goes home to see his family. In the end the characters might get their 1 million per episode but not be seen in all the episodes that occur reducing the overall costs of the production.

Marijuana side effects

pot

IT LOOKS LIKE SOMETHING MY STOMACH SHOULD HAVE KEPT DOWN

It appears from all the media coverage that “Marijuana” is the new wonder drug but I think that is “Reefer Madness”.  Some claim it can cure everything from depression to that hair lip (well maybe I’d be to high to notice) but even if it does help some conditions like any drug there are side effects that can blunt any benefits.  Here are a few I believe we can only agree on.

(1) DOPE- People will waste an exorbitant amount of hours utilizing this drug and staring at the wall when their mind could be spent on more productive activities like reading a book or helping a friend.

(2) SMOKING- Although  pot can be taken in many forms smoking is still the most popular and we know putting a foreign substances in your lungs can’t be good for the short or long term.

(3)BINGE EATING- Marijuana makes you hungry and therefore might cause you to make poor nutritional decisions that further put your health at risk.

(4) LAZINESS- Forget the natural high and health from going to the gym this will consume your mind and body.

(5) PARANOIA-  Who wants another reason to be cynical about others and this one is actually chemically induced.

A True Holy War

annihaliate

In the Torah/Bible it talks about annihilating the enemy but the enemy can be found not only around us but within us.  Today those enemies around us are those only bent on the destruction of the innocent to get what they want. Groups like “Hamas” and “Al Quaida” which use their own population as human shields and target the innocent are such  organizations and like the Nazi’s must be completely wiped off the map  for us to have peace around us.

Yet if we want true peace we must annihilate the enemy within and this is much more difficult. It is a battle that for most goes on for a lifetime. Evil impulses push us to hurt loved ones and strangers when we should be showing compassion and love. Those impulses can also cause us unnecessary pain in our life as we go down a path of doubt, jealousy, and perversion.  Our challenge is to take those evil impulses and some how turn them to good instead of evil.  We can either start a fire to burn down a house or create light and heat for our family. G-D gives us these impulses and power but he also gives us the directions where to go with them if only we truly listen. It’s up to us to annihilate the enemy within so we can truly have peace with ourselves and G-D.
