Isolation brings contempt

polar opposites

Many groups want to isolate themselves from the rest of the community but I believe that only brings contempt. For what you don’t know brings fear and that leads to many a conspiracy theory.  I understand and respect that many people of certain communities are afraid to interact with those of other communities because their spiritual or cultural beliefs strongly differ from those at the community at large. These groups fear that such interaction might lead them or their children down a path away from what they believe is right. Yet shouldn’t we have enough faith in our ideals that they can be open to debate and discussion?

Whether it be a monthly gathering of leaders from diverse groups or breaking of bread within the community we need to open the communication channels.  It is better to argue and discuss your differences with others through words rather then bullets. A group doesn’t have to change their values or ideals by such a discussion just understand a different perspective.  It is best to have tunnels of understanding and love between groups then tunnels built of hate and resentment.
