Here are a few simple hints (below) I’ve gained from over 35 years selling products or just myself. They seem basic but sometimes the simple facts evade us when we’re in the midst of a sale

(1) BE FRIENDLY- Have a warm inviting smile and use pleasant real words for such a discussion.  The words you use should match the colloquial verse of the people you are speaking to but with a bit more respect then they would use in their daily conversation.

(2) LISTEN FIRST- Ask questions to determine what your product or service might do to help the “potential customer” fill a need.

(3) DON’T PUSH- Wait for response even if it’s “No” and then see if you could have them move it to a “maybe” cue.

(4) EDUCATE QUICK- Realize that what you know about your products or services is truly unknown to the potential customer but they don’t have all the time of the world to be educated.  Therefore quick honest sound bites and pictures can truly hit home.

(5) CONCLUDE WITH SMILE- Even if the sale doesn’t go through a smile and thank you might open the door to their friends or associates.
