You don’t have to love or even like the “genre” but understand why if you want to spread your musical chords. Why do these artists continue to be at the top of the chart in their specific genre’s month after month? What is the formula that keeps the listeners continually listening even as other artists enter the fray? Are their angles you can incorporate in your “genre/style” that would help develop your own musical followings in ways you never expected. Just because their style is different doesn’t mean their chorus, percussion, lyrics or chords style wouldn’t work in your song. In other ways you should be open to listening to them all if you want others to listen to Y-O-U.
