This weeks Torah portion concerns the rights and responsibilities of ownership. Ownership comes from the purchase and recognized possession of one from another. Yet according to the bible that is not to destroy the territory but to build on it. Abraham built great wells on the land he possessed which benefited the people that lived there. Israel today has taken a desolate desert and turned into a modern economic wonder which the world continues to benefit from. Yet right across the way the leaders of the Gaza strip have taken their great opportunity and literally turned it into a place of death and destruction. They have spent the worlds charity not on water and power for the people but missiles and bombs to destroy them. G-D gives and G-D takes away. Let’s pray that the Palestinian people have new leadership in the near future that understand this principle and use to help their people not curse them.
