I’m not in favor of the President’s open remarks during the press conference after the summit with President Putin but what it probably helped to accomplish afterwards is something we all might have to admit is great. For President Putin has let’s say a bit more “flexibility” to take of matters on the world stage (Iran, Syria, North Korea) then the United States and kind words might help him to pursue those avenues. Avenue’s that the “good” United States couldn’t do without world condemnation. To put it bluntly President Putin isn’t a nice guy and that’s why it’s best to have him on your side even if the words that get him there are “fake news”.
