There are two strong arguments on symbols of the Confederate States of America which hit on NASCAR. For those brought up on one perspective sometimes can’t see the validity of the other point of view. Just as individuals who might see cars going around and around in circles may not see the history, incredible endurance and minute details that goes into every NASCAR race. Those who feel the full plight that slavery has done to the great African American people believe that any symbol that promotes those times should be wiped off the face of the earth while those that take pride in their heritage of rebelling for “states rights” see it on a whole different track. Maybe it’s those in the middle who can bridge such gaps by showcasing that most people in the south didn’t own slaves yet those that did controlled much of the wealth and power of the south. They might also note that by destroying historic symbols instead of discussing and debating it might produce a revision that is even more harmful to the cause. If we take the time to listen to each others we might see a unique perspective to keeps us up to speed so we all can run the checker flag together.
