I tried to understand why the movie “Sully” didn’t rock my plane and it finally hit me it was a bit silly. I’ll try to approach this subject without spoiling it for others but if you definitely want to see it then don’t read this blog post if on the other hand you’re on the fence this might tilt you over. Sully performed a heroic act which was recognized by the media in which he was basically given a heroes welcome. The exception was those individuals from the NTSB who were to investigate whether this act was truly necessary and even if Sully put his crew/passengers at an unnecessary risk. The movie dramatized the effect the board had on Sully as if some or even all the passengers had passed away.
If Sully had the confidence to land his plane in the water surely he had the confidence to believe his act was correct and would be eventually judged so by such a board. I for one can not comprehend dramatic feelings of concern and remorse when you are receiving accolades from millions as a hero. Who wouldn’t want to be in his shoe’s for one day after such an incident where millions of adoring fans and the media can’t wait for your every word? For a movie to hit home you must understand the characters emotions and empathize with them this is why Sully has landed on a different planet for me.
