Scattered & Focused

Posted by Bruce - in Blog - No Comments

Is it possible to be scattered and focused with the same individual I believe it is because I share these traits.  In a time where no particular course is set I think in many different directions where ideas will come across my mind in places far and removed from each other but when a mission is called my mind stays on task.  It will complete that task no matter the pain, time and effort needed to exert it’s completion and I can honestly with at least 80-90 % satisfaction. There are times when it’s 99 % and I’m sure there are also times where I’d give myself  only a C+ instead but it will get done as long as my G-D given abilities can somehow seep through.  I believe most creative people who have success have these abilities although from the outside it might appear there all over the place give them the specific task and watch them shine as well.

Art Vs Entertainment

art vs entertainment

Sometimes I think there is a war between Art and Entertainment where many of those that produce such works fear that later.  If it’s to entertaining then it’s not truly  art because art must provoke you.  I concur that art often must take you to a different place but I don’t believe that is going to nap time.  Here are a few examples of art crossing the annoying or boring zone.

1.  2001  A Space Odessey  Considered a wonderful piece of art but I couldn’t get past the monkey’s crushing skulls. I’m sure the film is “brilliant and I plan to watch it in the future but with a DVR to get through the extremely slow parts.  Maybe I’m missing something brilliant but my mind would rather take a nap then absorb it.

2. Lincoln Superb acting but way to much dialogue going back and forth and back and forth and…   There is sometimes more said with a picture then a thousands words Lincoln should have considered that in this production.

3. “Birdman”  The acting was splendid but as I left the film my only thought was “what was the point” or “what did I watch”.  There were great scenes but with no real endings  I found it more annoying then entertaining.

I don’t mean to be insulting because I understand art appeals to differing audiences but believe you can have a balance that suits both interest.  You can still provoke thoughts  and still be entertaining as seen be great films such as “Black Swan”, “The Last Temptation of Christ”, “The Fight Club” & “The Artist”.  That to me is true what true art should be.

The greatest art is thought provoking but still finds a way to be entertaining.

Success with less Money

success

Success is too often determined by our society with the amount of money you have in the bank or toys that you own but their are other paths that might be more rewarding. Of course you need to provide a basic shelter for you and your family, food on the table and the resources for them to succeed but after that the paths separate.  Here are just a few paths (below) that might be the keys to your success. In the end going after one of those paths instead of financial success might make you have to trade in that Mercedes for a Yugo (if it’s still made) but this key might truly be heavier with your heart and soul.

(1) CREATIVE SUCCESS-Playing a role in seeing your own vision or helping someone’s vision come to fruition.

(2) ATHLETIC SUCCESS- Achieving a success in a sport or other athletic competition that took effort and time to be successful in.

(3) EDUCATION SUCCESS- Receiving knowledge that took time and effort to gain and sharing that information with others.

(4) POLITICAL SUCCESS- Working for a change (s) in society to make it better for your or future generation.

(5) FAMILY & FRIEND SUCCESS- Helping those that you love achieve their dreams.

(6) **** RELIGIOUS SUCCESS- Finding a path that keeps you close to G-D wherever the other paths might lead you.

The Right’s Sit In’s.

sit ins

Why are there now Right Wing sit in’s? Don’t get me wrong we’ve had plenty of protests whether it be over Obamacare or Abortion policies but can you name a true sit in. The last time I can recall such a movement from the right it occurred with Operation Rescue where”Pro Life” activist took many counterculture measures to get their message out. It’s ironic that at the time of their greatest impact laws were enacted to stop their protests from having such an effect.  “Sit In”, type protests can mobilize your grassroots activist to take a stronger stance together and build a network. This network can impact legislative or elective changes to our society. The problem is that we on the right are making our own changes everyday whether it be through long hours at the office or even longer hours with family and our local Churches and/or Shul’s. If we are to continue grow though with our youth we must make the time and effort to have our own “Sit In’s” and show the media elite that our message will be heard as well.

Wall Street Journal -Weekend Edition- Bipolar Stories- 12/10/14

wall street Journal

I decided to list the stories that truly can be considered good or bad news depending on your mindset as you read them. When you first read them you might consider them positive but  later on feel they are negative and vice versa. Here are the stories (below) that left me in that mindset and why that occurred. PLEASE SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS.

(1) Gas Prices continue to fall – POSITIVE- More monies in the American people’s pocket. NEGATIVE- It could severely hurt our own production in the states, making us more dependent on foreign oil.

(2) The stock market has the worst week in years.  POSITIVE-Great sales for those ready to jump in the market (Ex Haliburton and IBM are at 52 week lows) NEGATIVE- This week many American’s were a bit poorer.

(3) Road blocks are put up in many areas of Jerusalem.  POSITIVE- This should help prevent many terrorist attacks.  NEGATIVE  Roadblocs will hurt economic growth in those areas and cause deeper distrust between different communities.

(3) Artificial Intelligence POSITIVE- It could help those with disabilities (driver less cars) and provide services that weren’t easily available (complicated medical care in rural areas) NEGATIVE- Computers don’t have the ability to make a split second decision and it’s hard to sue a computer.

(4)Free Health Clinics are closing  POSITIVE – It is claimed that this is occurring because more people now are covered by medical insurance NEGATIVE- Less medical options available and now less resources to those who don’t have medical coverage.

question

Almost everyday you pass by me like I don’t exist but I’m always there for you.  I know there are many among us but I’ve been here the longest and my roots are the deepest with your family. How many times have you stood by me when the weather wasn’t just right or you just wanted a break but then walked away like I didn’t even exist. I bet you even forgot my name (Elm) but someday I’ll have my revenge. For I will stand strong and proud even when you’re gone from this land and maybe then someone else will truly show me the love and affection I deserve.

Something for nothing…. and the trip was free.

free deal

I know they say you get nothing for free but once in my lifetime I truly did and it wasn’t a time-sharing scheme. I saw an application to receive training as a public speaker for the Tea Party Patriots and decided to apply for free. For some reason they accepted my application and flew me down to Alexandria Virginia again for free. Not only did I receive excellent accommodations but my room and training was included as well. I got to meet some of the most talented warm leaders from around the country, received excellent training  and wondered how the hell did I get  included with this group.  In conclusion it is generally true you get nothing for free but generally doesn’t mean always.

Shark Tank- 12/10/14- Review

shark tank

I’m working on my resume to get a position on the show and I think a few million might also help. Until then here is my thoughts on this weeks show.

Mensch on the Bench– A Jewish character for those who celebrate Hanukah.  It’s a nice idea for a nice Jewish boy like me but I don’t see this as a growing business so I’m out.

Eve Drop-  A great idea to hang Christmas lights but too expensive and he has too much inventory.

Link to Evedrop

Q Flex- Acupuncture for the rest of us.  Simple but gets right to the point. I’m in if they get a patent.

Hobby Paws-  Stamping for Christmas. She’s an energetic, great leader but this item isn’t as creative as I think it needs to be but with another Shark I’m in.

Individual or Group?

Posted by Bruce - in Blog - No Comments

individual

They tell us not to judge people by the group we belong to whether it be  race, religion or sex but we continue to have studies that facilitate this thinking.  The latest study says men take more “idiotic risks” then woman do.  This helps with the general accepted stereotype in our society today that men are stupid. In general there might be some truth to that theory that men are risk takers but without taking in factors like economic status, upbringing even self confidence level’s we can conclude that this study is deeply flawed. For we are not some organism kept in a controlled environment like an Ameoba but a human being that is shaped by the experiences and education that we absorb. Some of us might be inspired to work harder when we get our first F while others might just despair. Many of us might do crazy acts to impress the ladies or men while others are just be happy as a spectator. So let us throw out these studies and look at each other as the beautiful individual that we are.

Settling.

average couple

Let’s face in our life there is a time to settle and accept one’s position whether it be through a position or relationship.  Maybe you’re girlfriend and/or boyfriend didn’t turn out to be the Prince or Princess you dreamed about but as long as there are times of pure bliss that is fine. Maybe you didn’t make it up the corporate ladder to the top but you’ve enjoyed the view along the way.  It’s important to understand that settling might allow you to move ahead on other fronts in your life instead of wandering in many different directions. Settling doesn’t mean giving up hope it just means appreciating what you have now.  Even if your like me and continue to search for new and bigger dreams there are times that settling (at least for the moment) can truly give you a new prospective and gratitude you sometimes take for granted.
