Selfish Sixties

60's

I believe that the 60’s were truly the “Me Generation“.  It is true that those who participated in the 60’s Civil Rights movement are not found in this word because they were willing to sacrifice limb and even life to bring about peaceful change but they were the exception not the rule.  Whether it be the immediate gratification many of that generation went through by indulging in illegal drugs or illicit sexual behavior that had nothing to do with love but animal impulses;  this generation was truly full of what makes me feel good without consequences.  Even many in the Anti-War movement were moved less by the plight of the Vietnamese then fear of themselves being drafted. What made this more reprehensible is the way some of these people would act toward those who came back from service that were willing to put their life on the line to defend their freedoms.  In conclusion I don’t mean to indict an entire generation but to claim it was full of individuals that wanted “Peace & Equality” is even more invalid.
