Insanity might not be crazy?

Is insanity always something that must be treated or are there times when someone’s  artificially life makes more sense then the truth?  If someone’s personally experiences are so difficult, that they cope with it by creating an artificial world, who are we to take that away from them? Yet can that artificial  world bring danger to such individual or those around them? It is truly a hard web to weave?

Imagine an individual losing a loved one that truly was there life and believe aspects of that person reside in their dog. If that dog is treated well and the person does no harm to themselves, the dog and those around them is it worth them finding out the truth? Maybe when there mind is truly up to it they will better accept the facts or maybe not. I’m sure we can come up with plenty of examples where people live out fantasy’s even to the extreme and that helps them cope with their “ordinary lives. Or could a fantasy life lead to dangerous conditions for that person or an innocent bystander such as occurred with the “Son of Sam” case. I believe this is a tricky web to weave but with the right therapist, psychiatrist and loved ones it can be dealt with effectively by carefully monitoring such an individual. Letting an individual escape when they want to be but bringing them back when it is needed.  What do you believe?
