Could we be approaching a cure for Diabetes and other chronic sicknesses? The Thymus might just be the “organ” that makes it all possible. When an individual receives a transplant to help them deal with a chronic disease their own body tries to reject the “foreign cure”. Medical professionals deal with this dilemma by prescribing anti-immune suppressant medicine which makes the whole procedure much more difficult. Yet when one transplants a cleansed section of an individual’s Thymus (cleansed of their T Cell) the problems of rejections and immune suppression might not be a problem anymore. The Thymus is the organ that trains T cells to know the difference between a foreign substance that can hurt one’s body and one that is part of it. Thymus from the same body where a transplant is pulled from will allow the organs to recognize as their own. Therefore in the end the Thymus might just be the one organ that ends chronic diseases forever.
