The great wise men have said the biblical verse an “eye for an eye” is not to be taken literally from G-D’s book but what about their own words? For if the words that are written with G-D’s penmanship (Torah/Bible) need room for interpretations then surely the words of his children should be clarified as well by their contemporaries. The Talmud is such a book and giving it room for interpretation based on the concepts that are written not the letter of the law helps open this book to many more readers. To conclude I don’t want to appear to take such a “liberal” path with such great men of early times but maybe it’s not exactly what is written which is so important but searching for the truth behind the actual words.
FOOTNOTE- Could it be also that the paths to G-D are many. As some might be bumpier than another but the point is just to keep walking forward.
