Has there been a fair election? It wasn’t fair when only those who owned property could vote and it wasn’t fair when individuals were denied the right to vote because of race or gender, Fairness didn’t occur when a tax was placed before one cast their vote as well. It isn’t fair today when dead people dilute the vote of the living or when drop boxes aren’t secure enough to ensure that a signature actually represents the person who supposedly cast that vote. The truth is elections will never be entirely fair as long as people who don’t fully believe in true justice are in charge. The best we can do is learn from the mistakes of the past whichever side they fall on. Yes, we need to voter I.D cards but make them so easy and secure that every citizen can obtain them. We need to find a way that those who have physical disabilities can vote if they want but are not used by politicians on either side to cast a vote that isn’t in their “writing”. The truth is elections will never be fair but that doesn’t give us an excuse to fight every election cycle to try and get closer to that goal.
