Pride comes in all different forms. The one I was raised by was the one of achievement. This is where one sets a goal and though others believe it’s nearly impossible for you to achieve you climb that ladder and reach the top. The truth is even those who make the climb without reaching the top should feel some pride in the effort. The other is making it through some milestone in life from grammar school graduation to a college diploma and every smiling face you get from a teacher along the way. Then there is the pride of being part of a group that you belong to and understanding the good this group has brought to society as a whole. Finally, there is the pride of standing up for who you are as an individual especially when your societal norms tell you not to. This form of pride is the one we in society appear to emphasize most although this same society is picking out which “coming out” is acceptable to be. Therefore making such a statement does not actually fit in the puzzle of pride as a whole.
