Could the wealth of a nation be a factor in the number of individuals suffering from mental health conditions? According to Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs, a person must have enough to survive before they can think past the moment. When individuals have safety nets that they “can’t fall through” can the mind crack instead. I believe idle time and idle thoughts without a goal or purpose can add fuel to the fire of a mind that is not feeling well. When an individual has only the goal of making it day to day they’re mind must focus on the hear and now or they won’t be here. The body’s survival skills take over and even a mind not on the mend will fight to stay sane. Wealth is great for a nation but maybe it also is a catalyst to those predisposed to mental health conditions?
FOOTNOTE- Organization such as Outward Bound could help turn that around.
