Anyone who knows me understands I wear the truth on my sleeve yet once in a blue moon that sleeve has a jacket. Jacob knew that sometimes telling the whole truth right away would not serve the greater good so even he would use deception when it was truly needed. Yet, when is such a time? We all probably realize one should not tell an individual that she looks heavy with that dress on her wedding date even if it adds another 100 lbs but how far do we draw our line of deceit. I guess it depends on whether the truth will bring peace or war. If one’s honesty splits a family down the line then maybe it’s time that the story be told a different way. When truth causes another to act in a way that would truly be harmful to themselves or others then spare the honesty for the time being until it can truly be understood. If you think I’m being deceitful then my Christian breadthen tell your 2 year old there is no Santa Clause. We all depend on the truth but only when the individual or community can truly handle it. G-D knows the puzzle we live in will eventually reveal the whole truth but only if we are willing to put all the pieces together. Let’s face it sometimes for the better of an individual or society the truth as a whole must lie instead.
