A strong dictator doesn’t announce their ascendancy to power just slowly build it up as a lobster to a hot water pot. First, they do their utmost to silence the loudest critics by making sure press conferences are held with only friendly questions being asked and only sporadically at best. Then they do their best to demoralize the opposition by making the opposition appear to be parts of a “criminal type enterprise” that is bent on a violent overthrow. The dictator will also work with their corporate friends to make sure their message is repeated over and over again while opposition voices are shut out of their band widths. Dictators will assume credit for previous leaders past success and attempt to blame all errors on those who came before. The previous rule books on procedures and respect on how to uphold a democracy will be thrown by the waistline to pass bills that only their side truly approves of. The signs of justice will be bent squarely in one side of the corner. Any means of defense by those who feel their voices are not being heard will also be eliminated step by step until the water is finally hot enough and only the voice out of the pot is heard.
