It was never about the act as the public desecration. When an individual kneeled as our flag was raised it might have meant something different to them but should have been done in a less public way. We need to respect all the traditions of others not trample on them even as we see things that really need to change. That is the story we learn as an individual publicly desecrated the Sabbath and faced the ultimate penalty. This of course occurred at at time when the one author told the tribe how to act with a clear resounding voice. Yet today even as such a penalty is out of our human realm we still need to have such respect for the tradition and values of others. We should fight to change where injustice is seen just don’t look to individually become the scene instead. Where there is any act by humans change will be needed at some point but G-D knows that we shouldn’t make it about ourselves but making it better for all instead.
